I am a first year medical student, and I am unable to find any information online or from my classmates in terms of the competetiveness of various residencies (e.g. Average GPA, Average USMLE Step I & II, and the importance of the basic science years in comparison to the clinical science years).

I realize that I am only a first year, but I feel that this is important information to know; eventhough I intend to do my best in all the areas that I previously mentioned.

If any of you have any information regarding this topic, please respond. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'll advice you to first concentrate on your studies and start thinking about things when you're in M2 or M3

That's because this information isn't really available. You need to talk to people in the specialties you're interested in to get a sense of your competitiveness. Don't worry about it now, though... just try to do well, that'll help you out no matter what residency you pursue. 😉

Don't buy into that whole p=MD crap. Try to get the best grades you possibly can. Just my three cents.
