OK, some questions for pharmacists.

Lets say I write a script for a liquid. Can I just specify the total milligrams, or do I also have to specify the concentration of the liquid and the total mL for each dose? I'm assuming the pharmacist can just pick whatever concentration they want.

Stuff like Zantac. I work in peds and we use liquid meds mostly

I work in an inpatient pharmacy, but if you specify a mg dose we'll pick the most appropriate strength liquid.

I would rather you specify exactly what you want and then I can double check it.

Most liquid preparations I can think of, excluding antibiotics, only come in one stength or concentration.

I work in an inpatient pharmacy, but if you specify a mg dose we'll pick the most appropriate strength liquid.

In the retail world writing the prescription this way will guarantee a phone call. Write it out. Zantac 75mg/5ml give 15mg bid. We'll do the math as long as you know the concentration. There is no guarantee that because there is one strength now, there will always be one strength forever. Exhibit One: Megace.

I would say its a good practice to write the concentration you want on the rx anyways.
