Just doing some research on some programs and would like very much to enter into an integrated program...

has anyone heard how good the las vegas program is?

also, i've heard tampa is a very malignant program is that true?

any info on any program (wether they are malignant or not) would be really helpful! thanx

Focus on doing your best so you can obtain the best letters and enhance your CV. This is extremely competitive, with CVs of applicants better than a good portion of the Junior attendings.

Tampa is a newer program. It is not malignant, but it is geared to training the best Plastic Surgeons and making sure you pass your boards.
Their Chief is one of THE leaders in the field who also was key in developing the integrated programs.

Good Luck

Is USF in Tampa a PGY-1 match (integrated/combined) program or traditional? I have heard both answers, and was hoping for clarification.
Thanks

This was USF (what you mean by Tampa right?) first year back in the integrated/combined match (2 spots) and im assuming they will stay there unless something goes wrong. Last year they accepted someone outside of the match.

The Vegas program is ran by Zamboni from SIU and is also new and did the same thing as USF, outside last year, through the match this year. Zamboni is respected in the field, but their program is very young, as this will be the first year they have any upper level plastics residents.

Go to the following link: http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/
In the left margin, click on Search: Accredited Programs
then: follow directions Program: (Plastic Surgery) State: (Florida)

details 3601112140 University of South Florida Program Tampa, FL Plastic
Click on "view details"

ACGME APPROVED/OFFERED POSITIONS
(CATEGORICAL AND PRELIMINARY POSITIONS ONLY)
Year 1 Positions: 3

Year 2 Positions: 3

Year 3 Positions: 3
Year 4 Positions: 3
Year 5 Positions: 3
Year 6 Positions: 3

Total Number of Approved/Offered Resident Positions: 18

Now you will also see not all positions filled, but this site is not updated often.

Bottom line, this shows it is approved as an integrated.

But = not all integrated show up this way. You need to spend time on the ACGME site, then the NRMP site, and go to each program web site.

Any program that David J Smith, Jr, MD runs will be a great program.
Good luck with your application.

Remember - spend more time doing extra studying and work - it's a bit too early to focus on these programs right now. Improve your CV and stay in contact with your references: Just don't over-do it.
Good luck

I would echo the above, if your planning on going for an integrated plastics match, definitely dont try to single out programs in the application process. That could be a deathblow to your chances. Apply to all programs, and if you have specific ones you are really shooting for do a sub-i there or send a email to the PD at that time. The plastics match is way too risky to apply to only the places you think you want to go.
