Just a few quick questions. I'm going to apply to medical schools next year. If I want to apply to DO schools, the earliest date should be May 1st, right? My school is quarter system, and my spring quarter will not be over until June. So do I have to wait until I finish my spring quarter? or is it ok just to send my transcript without my spring quarter grades?

Go ahead and submit your primary as soon as possible. They won't start verifying it, however, until all transcripts have been received. What I would recommend is going ahead and having your transcript from that school up to that point sent it so you can start being verified. You will just list some classes as "In Progress" on the application and as soon as they are done you need to send another copy with the updated grades. It won't slow you down though.

Completely agree, don't be afraid to make the transcripts arrive before you hit submit and pay. Mine were there before I hit submit after I had a new application ID for them to put on the request forms.I think I was verified a couple weeks into June because it was all there.

I have a similar question...

So if I have to retake 3 courses, let's say that summer (assuming I submitted June 1st) I wouldn't be verified until they received my summer grades? That would make my app late, right?

and if the classes weren't offered or something like that, am I screwed? 🙁

You can get verified as long as you have the classes you are retaking marked as "In Progress" or "To Be Completed" on the primary. It was list you as still needing one transcript when you go check on the status, but you will get verified because of the way you have labeled the course (I believe it also asks you when you are completing it as well). If the classes aren't offered and you have already listed them as to be completed, you will just have to send an update to AACOMAS letting them know you are no longer planning to take them. If you do end up taking them, just make sure you have a transcript sent as soon as possible, especially since they are retakes and will affect how your GPA gets calculated.

If these are classes that you desperately need to retake to really make your application worthwhile, I'm honestly not sure I would try to cram them all in during the summer. The grades are going to be important and summer classes, particular science ones (and I assume that's what you're retaking?), are not easy. If for some reasons, grades don't pan out like you'd like, you're really hurting your chances. Can you not just retake them in the fall? As long as the school sees that you're retaking them on your primary, you can still receive secondaries...it might delay your interviews a little at some schools because they might want to see those grades, but it all depends on how well you think you can manage it all.

Oh ok...thanks GraceE!

As for the science classes my school has different sessions so I would be taking them in different sessions (def not altogether!) but considering that I can put then down as "In Progress" I think I'll stick to two during the summer then 🙂

Sounds like a plan...I did a similar but slightly different thing with my app this cycle. I knew I was going to be starting a master's program but because I was waiting so late to see if I got off of a waitlist, I didn't apply until quite late for the program. I went ahead and submitted my primary without even a mention of the program. Then, once I knew my classes, I went back and emailed the app service to let them know. Even now, after I have been verified and am in the middle of interview season, it says it is waiting on one of my transcripts. Since I listed them as in progress, though, they weren't going to take away my verified status. It just means I need to send the transcript as soon as I can.

Good call on not taking them all at once. Even having those first couple retake grades earlier in the season like that will help you. Even if you submit your primary on May 1st, the earliest date, you won't be verified until mid June or so anyway. Schools will see those "to be completed" classes, since that's what they will be if you submit that early, and will take that into consideration when evaluating your application.
