Questions about UCSF?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well done, Legend!

So, now that you're in (or perhaps after tonight's drunken revelry), you should sign up on the Yahoo! group that a member of our class put together for us:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ucsf2008/

For that matter, anyone out there who is planning to attend UCSF this fall and hasn't yet checked out the site, come join us so we can start being one big happy family.

To all of you still waiting, hang in there and good luck! Keep hope alive! Hope to see you in September.

Feel free to PM me with any questions. I'll be around this summer as well.

Hi Lefty McFish, thanks for the info, sounds interesting 🙂

Hey Citygirl, Do you know the living condition/area around the Turk Apts (UCSF's)? Do students have to share the bedroom in the apts? Thanks.

Hey Citygirl, Do you know the living condition/area around the Turk Apts (UCSF's)? I am on the waitlist for the apts, the lady in the office told me I have good chance getting one. Do students have to share the bedroom in the apts? Thanks.

The Turk Apts are in a nice area and there is a free shuttle to and from the campus. You do have to share a bedroom, but it's pretty cheap (relatively speaking). I know several students who are currently living there and they like seem to like it okay.

I am another UCSF dreamer. For a lot of reasons. First of all, it is a great school. Second, I live in Sunnyvale, and don't want to be too far away from my husband. Third, it is a beautiful city.

I got my B.S. in Genetics from China with an overall GPA of 3.75 five years ago. M.S. in computer science. As you could figure, I am old. MCAT 39P. Quite some research experience since I used to be on the biochem academic track. I feel my age and location of my undergraduate educaiton would definitely play against me. I have no idea how much chance I stand. However no matter what, I would give it my best shot. It is worthy it.

Wish me luck,

Qinnu

I don't think the location of your undergrad location or your age will be a problem. I went to a state school, not overseas but certainly not Ivy League. I started at UCSF when I was 41. Some schools don't seem too keen on us "more experienced" students, but UCSF is very open in that regard.

I just got that lucky call today saying I'm off the alternate list. I am so freakin happy. After all that agonizing wait they finally called me. I am so excited to be back home. See all guys in the fall. 😀 🙂 😀 😀 🙂

Hey guys
I was wonderin what all the new ucsf students and current ucsf students do about housing? I am still looking for housing and was wonderin if anyone has any suggestions about either living on campus through the school or living off campus around the sunset area. Also does anyone know where the best place is to find housing near ucsf? Thanks in advance 😀

does UCSF have any special programs/assistance for those interested in law also?

For the poster who inquired about searching for housing in the Sunset: try the UCSF housing website's off-campus listing service (www.housing.ucsf.edu/cho), or Craigslist (you can specify a neighborhood). I would say about 90% of my classmates found housing via one of these two methods.

Congratulations to you all on your acceptances. I am still psyched about medicine and thank my lucky stars everday that I came here for medical school. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

I think there is some kind of joint program with UC Hastings but I don't know much about it. Try a UC Hastings search. (Yeah, I know this is a little late but I just saw the question.)
