Don't worry too much about the interview, the day was very laid back and the adcom is very helpful! Be sure to check out the views when you're there, they are absolutely gorgeous. And if you have time, check out the neighborhood. Irving street, which is one street down (UCSF is on a hill, btw carl turns into Irving), has a bunch of cool restaurants and coffee shops. If you have any Qs, let me know, I live in SF.

Btw, at the interview they are going to ask for grades you haven't reported with names of courses. If you don't remember all of this you might want to write it down. They will also ask you what you are doing this year if you're not in school.

Snowbear, luckily my grades for this quarter don't come out until one week after my interview, so I won't have to worry about that but thanks for the advice. My interview is for the day that the first two years have their finals so I hope I'll still get to meet some students! I'm so excited, I love SF!

The MS1 exam is from 8a-12p, so you should stop by the lounge after your tour because I'm sure folks will just hang out there until they find something better to do. Good luck and congrats on getting an invite.

I keep trying to find this out and so far all I hear is that a lot of us who were accepted interviewed really late. I know there were several who interviewed very early and were waitlisted initially but I have no idea what the actual numbers are. In general, I would say that if you get waitlisted there is certainly hope. I'll keep poking around for a better answer.

i interviewed on the 3rd of nov (thanx again for showing me around!) and am wondering whether i should even consider stalking my mailman! thanx for the info 🙂 and hope you're doing well

Its a bit soon for them, but go ahead and stalk. You know you want to anyway😉 Letters will go out on or around the 15th of each month starting with December. Mine arrived on the 20th or 21st of the month (April).

i interviewed november 17, so i know there's pretty much no chance of me hearing on dec 15.

the thing that kills me though is that if you check out last year's thread, someone interviewed november 16th and then heard on december 15th!!! so it means that if you're lucky and your committee meetings and stuff all line up well, we still have a shot (albeit extremely remote) of hearing. ahhhhhhh!

Did anyone hear back for an interview before the 8 week deadline that's on the site? And are all committees on vacation right now or next week?

I have heard of a couple of people in our class who actually heard in December, and only one thus far was after only a few weeks. That is certainly the exception rather than the rule so it is way too soon to be discouraged. The committees are still on until the week between christmas and new year. At least that is when the other school admins are down. I still have not been able to find anyone who was taken off the hold list to interview. About a third of our class came off the wait list post interview, though.

I was placed on hold approximately 5 weeks after completion. UCSF is quick and I really appreciate it, too! They asked for grade updates as well, so I hope you all did well this quarter/semester. Good luck!

The 15th is a Monday. Don't be suprised if your letter comes a little earlier than expected! 🙂

Hey, could anyone tell me the closest airport to UCSF. I have an interview there next month and i am trying to reserve some tickets. Also, is any form of student housing provided for interviewing applicants. Thanks Y'all

Congratulations on your interview! SF will be a lot of fun--stay a few days if you can. SFO is easiest, and now you can take the subway (BART) into town, link up with muni as needed.

Oakland is OK, but a bit farther--sometimes the savings in airfare make up for the incoinvenience. BART also takes you to SF from there, but there's a short shuttle ride from OAK to BART.

Definitely try to hook up housing, as hotels will be expensive in SF. Good luck. Get around to see the neighborhoods, not just the tourist stuff. Do check out the cable cars though. The library has free walking tours with local volunteer guides. www.sfpl.org

Yeah, I feel like the letter prevents me from a justafiable and meaningful call or letter to them... I want to call but what's the point with this overly nice and detailed letter explaining that they have no idea what our chances are as "on hold" people?

No. They may tell you if letters went out but they are pretty tight-lipped over the phone about decisions. The only time anyone gets anything over the phone is if they call you and I have only heard of that happening when they are pulling people of the wait list late in the game.

All the MS1s are off campus for the next two days doing a "clinical interlude" but I will try to get over to the Admissions Office on Thursday to see if letters actually went out.

Don't give up. I have been informally polling my classmates and just haven't heard of it happening. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I'll see what I can find out from the Admissions Office later this week.

i think i saw in the rejection thread that rgporter's ucsf post was a preinterview letter...

so those of us postinterviewers still don't have to worry about checking our mailbox every two seconds... someone called the office earlier and said that final decision letters will be "going out in the next couple of days" i hope they hurry!!!! 🙂
