Has anyone been taken off the preinterview hold list at any time this year?

I don't know whether to cross my fingers or cross UCSF off the list...

Yo, i emailed them asking if i could coordinate an interview with ucla's, and they told me that they wouldn't look at people on hold until february.

I met citygirl!!!!!!!!!!! HELLO 🙂

Last time it took two days for the acceptances to be mailed out (I know, I have too much time on my hands). R we looking at tomorrow? please please please give me an acceptance UCSF.

Thanks, they didn't tell me that! They just gave me the don't count on it voice. So, I shall delay the letter of intent...

Hey, askew01. How did the rest of your day and your second interview go?

I was very impressed with the school. The second interviewer was nice, but we had some slight disagreements/miscommunications. Hope that doesn't hurt me, haha.

Everyone feels that way about their interviews in hindsight. I felt really good about mine until I started analyzing every word and thinking about all the witty, insightful comments I COULD have made. God, we are a neurotic bunch!

apparently some acceptance packets were sent out yesterday. since i live in the bay area, it only took 1 day to arrive.

woohoo! I got in! I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!

411.

congrats you guys!!!!! did you just get it today?!?!

congrats 411!!

where are you located? in CA?

I still don't have a direct answer about how many acceptances come off the high priority waitlist but maybe this will help:

Think of it this way.....they only send out 5 - 10 acceptances a month until April (when they finish interviewing). Most of the early acceptance people will have multiple offers and so not all (half?) will accept. Everyone else gets rejected (again, not many) or waitlisted (most). If they offer half those interviewed a seat....

See? It works out to about 50 or 60% off the waitlist.

And congratulations to everyone who has been accepted:clap:

Thanks Citygirl ! Just sit tight and waite till May 15. Congrats for those have been accepted

Yeah, I'm in the Bay Area. Good luck to everyone!

I'm confused, and I don't have the energy to read through 11 pages of posts...so can anyone tell me, is there any hope of my getting an interview offer now (Jan. 23rd)? I'm pretty doubtful, but just wanted to check...I've heard absolutely nothing from them since I sent in my secondary.

Yes, you can... they offer interviews through April 15th, direct quote....

Thanks...I hope I get one of those...April seems like a long time away, though! 🙁 but I will be very happy if I hear good news anytime before August  !

Sorry guys, but I need to amend my last post a bit. I guess it was only December where they sent out just a few acceptances. In later months they send out more and will have about 120 offers sent out by April. This still leaves some spots for late interviewees. The "about 50% of those interviewed get accepted" is correct, but the % off the hold list isn't that high. I'm just a "glass half full" kinda gal. Unfortunately there is no way to get around the waiting for those who have multiple acceptances to make their decisions.

By the way, I saw a big interview group yesterday (10+) making the tour.

Congrats again to all those who have been accepted!!!

I've been placed on hold for an interview, is there anything that I can do to help get off it?

Wow, I didn't know UCSF did that. I would call them up if I was in your position. Citygirl can prolly provide a better answer. I hope everything works out ok. BTW, I like your icon..
great movie 🙂

Last I heard (mid December) from the Admissions Office was that people were getting called off the hold list for interviews, but I wasn't told how many. I agree you should call and find out where you are in the process. If anything has changed for you since your application (additional relevant experiences) it wouldn't hurt to send a follow up letter as well.

Good luck.

2 bay area people accepted this time...where are all the others????

hey 411 and schpilkes!

congrats on your acceptances...y'all are my heroes!
just wondering...when did u guys interview?? thanx and congrats again.

Yeah, I interviewed at the very end of October and I haven't heard anything. I am very tired of waiting. I have pretty much concluded that I will be hearing something at the beginning of Feb (WL or Rejection). It doesn't seem likely that they haven't reviewed my file yet. Oh well 🙁

Stressedout, when did you interview?

hey snowbear,

i interviewed november 3rd... i too am expecting the WL at the beginning of feb...sniff, sniff...still hoping for the best tho.

hope we all hear something good soon 🙂

Just to give you guys some hope, I know of at least one person last year who interviewed early November and was accepted outright in the February batch.

I'm pretty sure they tell you to wait AT LEAST 8 weeks. Very few will hear prior to 8 weeks (within 4 weeks), and the rest have to wait longer. Don't read too much into it that you haven't heard--chances are they just haven't reviewed your file yet.

Citygirl may have a better sense of how often they review files since she appears to have more contact with the admissions office than I do, but I'm telling you that it's far to early to give up hope.

Good luck!

NYC nontrad is absolutely right. There is no magic time period and files aren't always reviewed/responded to in the order candidates interview. Interviewees are told anything from eight to twelve weeks. There are other things going on behind the scenes (like how busy your interviewer is and how many files can be reviewed during any given month). Don't give up hope............really. You can always call the Admissions Office (dont' be afraid) and ask where your particular file is in the process.

Nyc nontrad & citygirl,

Thanks for your guys' replies 🙂 I will stay positive.

yeah, thanx you guys...definitely helping to keep my hopes up!

Congrats to those who got accepted!

I interviewed in mid November with no news so far. Hopefully, a big packet from UCSF will come next month. Please please please.

Stressedout and snowbear, hang in there. Good news can still come next month.

congrats to those who recently got accepted!

i'm heading into week 13+ post-interview...this waiting game really sucks! 🙁

hi everyone,

Well, I got some bad news today--yep a rejection from UCSF. It was a nice rejection, though. I am kinda bummed out but my acceptance to USC really helps out. It's just going to suck telling everyone 'cuz everyone around me was rooting for UCSF. It's definately making me feel better to tell you guys. Thanks for all your support and good luck 🙂

Sorry, Snowbear.🙁

Sorry snowbear, but you're right, you still have an acceptance to a top tier, California medical school!

hey citygirl,
i just got an interview yesterday and had a ques. they have a biology or zoology requirement which i am not sure of. it saids a class in vertebrate zoology with a lab...i am a bio major and have taken lab, but my lab was biochem. i am certain i have enough bio like cell, metabolic, genetics, etc but do i need a diff lab? hope that makes sense.

I am sorry to hear about your rejection🙁
Maybe, we might end up being classmates at USC.
I hope the acceptance compensates. 🙂

Bio majors (and premeds) usually take a series of intro courses that includes a mix of zoology, cell/molecular and plant phys. At my CSU they were Bio 121, 122, and 123. At the Cali JCs its Bio 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3. These are all lab classes. Anything like that sound familiar? I'm kind of out of touch about the requirements but I think as a bio major you probably have it covered or you wouldn't have been given an interview (or a secondary application). Have you talked to a pre-health advisor or counselor at your school?

Snowbear

Sorry to hear that. Hey you do have multiple acceptances in the highly rank schools. You have done an excellent job. Keep your head high and move on. Good Luck.

Sorry to hear the bad news Snowbear, but you still get to go to med school in CA. I haven't heard from USC in a long long time. 🙁 That lunch was really nice....Mandarin chicken salad...drool. Sorry, I digress. Congrats on your acceptances and good luck!

I got the rejection letter today too! Poo!

Good luck to those who are still waiting!

Ok, goodness, what a ridiculous day! My mom just called me to say that she mis-read the letter. That I got put on high priority.

I had almost had a frickin heart attack.
