Hi everyone,
i got my acceptance packet today!
the acceptance letter says that i should send in a transcript within four weeks upon receiving the letter, but it also says to send in a final transcript
since i'm still in school now, do i send in the transcript now or after i graduate?
thanks!! 🙂D still in shock!!!)

Congrats! I would probably send in both sets of transcripts to be safe. One now to illustrate your current progress and then another when you graduate to validate that. But I am sure the admissions office would be more than happy to provide some clarification. Best of Luck!

Hi all, got a quick question about how many letters of recommendations one would send to UCSF. Minimum is of course 3, but what is the maximum. On the UCSF website, with their admission bulletin, they said "five letters of recommendation is preferred".
Originally i've heard the number applying to med school's in general was 5-7. Does anyone know if there's any drawbacks to just submitting more than 5? Or does this preference for 5 letters unrelated to packets of letters bound by a comittee letter?
Thanks for the help!

They are really only interested in your final transcripts but you can request them now and let UCSF know they are pending. It always takes more than four weeks anyway, especially if you have to wait for degree verification.
Congrats!

Hey stressedout,
Sorry to hear the bad news. Good luck with the rest of your apps though. ^_^

On a note totally unrelated to admissions, did anyone catch Michael Krasney's interview with Dean Kessler this morning? Any thoughts?
bananasplit,
where did you hear the interview? is there a link to a transcript? i'd love to take a look at it.

The interview was on Forum this morning on KQED 88.5FM at 9am. You can listen to the program on the website: http://www.kqed.org/programs/program-landing-local.jsp?progID=RD19

Most MS1s won't be around but there will be other students. They will also have a tour arranged for you, probably by a first year. You should be able to sit in on a class with MS2s. How long are you going to be in town? PM me.

They met on Monday, 2/9. Don't forget that letters don't go out immediately, but they should go out within a week or so.
i wonder if they got to the hold list pile yet... gosh... can't wait...
Will the satus page change any time soon for the pre-interview hold peeps? My hopes aren't up or anything like that... I would rather stay in SoCal, but just curious just in case some other schools don't pan out.

I know they don't update the status page after the interview, but they do when they want you to call for an interview. I'm not sure what happens in your situation this late in the game. I'll see what I can find out.
Thanks, citygirl! I think we all owe you big time for going out of your way to do this for us! You're amazing!!

I too, would like to thank citygirl for all her advice, quick replies and willingness to meet with many of you before and after your interviews. I thought this thread was great last year but citygirl has definitely raised the bar. A locomotive for citygirl. Enjoy your break cg and I hope you rocked renal.
Peace and Love,

The latest update............
The meeting on the 9th was the regular monthly Adcom meeting to discuss students who have already interviewed. Pre-interview holds are a separate process and those will start being reviewed in about two to three weeks. Chins up.

P.S. I don't know about the "rocking of renal" but I didn't get one of the dreaded "report to the Student Affairs office" e-mails so I must have passed. Whew.

they've already graded the exams? do you know this for sure? also, KH works on saturdays so i figure if you make it through today then you are safe.
EDIT: So I checked the ROCKET, read Dana's message and then I re-checked my e-mail messages. I didn't get the e-mail either. Yeah! This is going to be a great five-day break.

Sorry, there is no hard and fast rule about how many are pulled off the preinterview hold list. The Admissions Office told me back in December that some people were already being called off that list. But that was THEN. It also depends on how many of the people with acceptances decline. As you know, a lot of people will hold onto acceptances from a bunch of schools until they are up against a deadline and have to make up their mind. I'm guessing that things will start happening a bit faster as we get closer to the end of the interview season (April).
I know the waiting is agony. If it's any consolation, the acceptance process is much more difficult and emotionally draining than actually being in medical school.
Good luck.

thanks citygirl.....your kind words and updates are extremely well-appreciated. I'll just have to keep waiting.....even though I am running out of bulls to sacrifice to the UCSF gods.

Were this month's "happy" letters mailed yet?
I assume they have since the last Adcom meeting was on Feb 9th, but no one here has posted about receiving anything yet.

I interviewed at UCSF in mid-October and have yet to hear anything...is that negative, as I assume?
Not necessarily. They actually don't send out many acceptances early on but they are picking up the pace. I had a friend who interviewed in October (last time around) and didn't find out she was waitlisted until March. I would suggest you call and make sure that your file is in order (ie: not lost). I don't think files get lost very often, but it would be better to find out now! You may at least find out more about your current status.
