I just got a waitlist from UCSF postmarked March 22, so if you haven't gotten anything yet, perhaps good news will come next month!

scabbler,
i'm really sorry to hear that! 🙁
does anyone know if the rejections are sent along with the waitlists? i'm getting paranoid now and thinking a rejection may come my way! hopefully i'll hear mid-april!!!

Oh, and citygirl, do you have any idea how much oomph a letter of intent has? I'm thinking about writing one...

I'm not sure how much oompth a letter will have but it certainly doesn't hurt.

I received my "High Priority category" letter today and I live on the east coast. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me that I get a high ranking on this list.

anyone out there waiting post interview??? 🙁

citygirl, since they stopped interviewing mid march, do you think the committee will meet earlier in april?

I interviewed on January 6th and still haven't received any news. I was hoping for a big envelope toward the middle of the month(March) but didn't receive one. So then I figured I was in the waitlist/rejection group and would hear in the beginning of April. But now it seems that several people have gotten waitlist notifications this week.
The way I see there are two possibilities(and please anyone post if they know otherwise).

1. Rejections are being sent at a different time than the waitlists this month and I will be getting one soon.
2. For some reason its taking a long time to make a decision on my application and I have another month to wait before the committee looks at it again(or maybe sooner since interviews have finished).

Hopefully all of us still waiting 10 weeks plus will hear something soon

Tritonslo,

Don't get discouraged. Sometimes things just take a really long time. When I applied, I interviewed here at the end of January and didn't get an acceptance letter until mid-May. From what I've heard there are a few things that can make things take a while, i.e. someone involved in your application assessment (an interviewer) can't make it to the meeting or sometimes it takes interviewers a really long time to write up their comments about your interview. It is a very bizarre process and you just have to go with it as best you can.

Best of luck!

good luck to you late inthe game and Tritonslo! hopefully the rejections were sent with the waitlist and we are just waiting for the big envelope next month.
😉

hey citygirl, are the JMP apps reviewed at the UCSF adcom meeting?

i was told i would be reviewed today for the JMP.

Do you think they are reevaluating the High Priority List as well?

The JMP apps are reviewed separately. It is possible to be accepted to one, both or neither. In other words, you don't have to be accepted to UCSF to be accepted to the JMP program.

Possibly, but I would guess the main focus is to review the latest round of interviews.

right. i was interviewed by the JMP but rejected by UCSF but i think they said something about final approval by the ucsf adcom. thanks.

I called last week and was told that they are totally done with interviews. Sorry man, I'm in the same boat. Its especially disappointing since UCSF was my top choice and I interviewed last year.

I think what Mike means is the reevaluting the acceptance status of those in the High Priority List - those have already been interviewed and waiting for the result of acceptance. I think High Priority list will be ranked around 5/15 and those in the top 20-30% may be accepted hopefully. Citygirl please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

Yes, I was referring to those who were already interviewed and placed on hold, not the pre-interview holds. It's true, unfortunately, that the last interviews were March 18th. I'm not sure when the ranking of the high priority hold (post interview) group is done, but I would assume that happens sometime after this last batch of interviewees has been reviewed.

starting to panic 🙁

It is true the JMP applicants are reviewed by UCSF for final approval but its not done by the same process or the same committee members as the regular UCSF SOM. Details, details.

thanks citygirl. i feel a little better after your response. how do you think your interviews went last year when you interviewed. i keep reevaluating mine but who knows what will happen. 🙂

Trying to take some slow, deep breaths here as well. Waiting is definitely the hardest part of the whole process.

Any word on whether the admissions meeting earlier this week resulted in acceptances likely to be sent out any time soon?

hi late inthe game! good to see others waiting as well. last month they meet on the 9th (tue) and sent it ou the 15th (the following monday). i am assuming that since they met this mon, (3/29) that it will go out next week sometime or even today??? 😕

Thanks yayme. Maybe they're signing my acceptance letter right now....?

I just got waitlisted at Stanford, and I think a UCSF acceptance could really cheer me up right now.

is Stanford waitlisting 80% of applicants this year?

geez.

better a waitlist than a rejection 😉
i think a UCSF acceptance will cheer me up right now and for four years!!!

For those interested, the financial aid office at UCSF will be posting on the internet very soon the (projected?) tuition/fees for the upcoming year. I am not sure where they obtained the numbers because I didn't think the information would be known until much later but he sounded confident about the numbers. Anyways, in the meantime, he told me tuition/fees will be $21,610 for a California resident, so the total cost for everything will be $41,650 for 1st year students.

This is not too "bad". However, last year's budget for 1st year student for UCLA was $43k. With the new tuition increase, it will top $50K this coming year. OMG.... when can we see the relief..... Uncle Gov Arnold is no help at all..... :scared:

I beg to differ. This year in state tuition/fees was 16K. So, an increase to 21.6K is an increase of 5.6K in a single year, after an increase of about the same amount the previous year. In effect, the tuition/fees have doubled in 2 years. This is not just bad, it is completely unacceptable because it effectively is a tax on the populace least able to pay it--no income gathering medical students. (And Arnold said he wouldn't raise taxes! Yeah, on people's income, but this is SO much worse in my opinion.)

Don't get me wrong, UCSF is still an amazing place and I wouldn't trade it for the world, but it's no longer quite the bargain I expected when compared to private schools. The financial margin is getting much closer.

Hey NYC, I concur, I can feel the pain for all of us going into the med school without knowing what is the next big increase for us down the road.....

The Golden State is no longer Golden. We have a bunch of dirty incompetent politicians playing the game at our expense. I do not know why they propose to raise 40% fees on "professional school". I guess they figure out we will be "super rich docs" someday, after we get out of the med school. We need to get rid of all the current incompetent dirty politicians, put them on the street and start a new chapter.

I felt really good about my interviews immediately afterwards, then I started mentally picking apart everything. After about two weeks I had convinced myself they went really badly. In other words, STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!!!!

I read on the UCSF financial aid website that UCSF offers limited number of students with Regent Scholarship.

This is scholarship that i think is offered only to selected entering student.

Anyone knows how many are offered each year?

Thanks!

The last time UCSF offered a Regents Scholarship, if I recall correctly, was to a Berkeley grad. The girl was AWESOME. She was glamour woman of the year (ro whatever the heck those are), Truman Scholar, Editor-in-Chief of the bio magazine....you know the kind of applicant I am talking about...if you're anything like that....the regents will automatically you to receive the scholarship. Good luck.

Eraserhead, do you know how the waitlist is ranked for jmp? hopefully you will only need 1jmp student (instead of 12) to go to harvard before you are taken off the list!😉

I'm not 100% sure, but its an "alternate list" and I'd imagine that with only 12 people they are striving for diversity so I'm probabaly in line underneath a white male... or maybe two 🙁

I'm totally not that sad, I just wanted a frown up there.

yeah, i'm not going to Irvine.

eraserhead,
looking at your waitlists, i can't imagine not getting into at least one though. 😉 if you had your picks, which would it be? oh nevermind...cornell

omg, yeah its nice of everyone to say that but its so not guaranteed. the jmp is a class of 12, and stanford rarely takes a waitlist-ee. i think cornell and einstein are decent chances though.

No, but they usually go out a few days after the Adcom meeting. Mail spends an extra day or two in the university system before making its way to the USPS, so everything takes a little longer. In general, people started receiving letters about a week after the Adcom meeting.

anyone hear anything. when i called i was told that decisions would be mailed by the 15th which doesn't really help! since its been more than a week since the adcom meeting...:scared:

UCSF is seriously lagging with sending decisions out. I know lots of people who haven't heard post-interview.

hey yayme,

did the office say that all decisions were going to be sent out by the 15th, or just this month's acceptances? i interviewed in early december and still haven't heard anything!! 🙁 Thanks!
