Hi

To those of you who applied to the University of Michigan Medical School I have a few questions. As an in-state student who currently attends Michigan State I would really love to attend UM medical school. I am not a pushover student, but I know the UM admissions committees are highly selective. I have done significant volunteering abroad , and a competitive GPA. I am also a non-science major. I haven't yet taken the MCAT- but I am sure that this is by far going to be the greatest challenge as of yet.

Please share your stories about how to get into this very elite school. Was research a big part? What was your GPA/MCAT? What do you believe pushed you over the top into an acceptance?

Thank you

the best advice for umich coming from someone who doesn't know much about it is, do everything you can to spruce up your app (gpa, mcat, research, ec's) and apply at the EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE. they accept many people early on.

become a good interviewee... thats the best advice i have.

work at it hardcore; get people to criticize you; get better. it will help.

UMich seems really big into numbers - if your GPA and MCAT are high enough you get an automatic invite, which usually leads to an acceptance (although not all the time).

Past that, it depends on who you get to interview you, as it does at most schools. Having a heavy research background really helped me as all three of my interviewers did a lot of basic science research. But different people have different experiences....
