I would like to do away rotations before the residency ERAS application deadline so i can get some LORs. My question is when does the ERAS close? Also, my core clerkships end at the end of June. How many aways can I do before sending out my ERAS application?

Thanks

ERAS doesn't close really. I mean I think it technically resets itself at the end of the academic year after the match and SOAP scramble, so sometime in April?

You should aim to apply to programs when ERAS first opens for applications, which is typically in September. Most programs say they have application deadlines in December or January, but the reality is you need to apply as early as possible.

I know my school supplied us with a timeline of how best to go about doing auditions, getting LORs, writing personal statement, applying, etc, so I would follow that timeline.

ERAS opens on september 15th, and most people try to have their application in on that day. You can still add things like LORs and step 2 scores in after you have submitted. How many aways you can do before then depends on when you finish with 3rd year requirements and if you need to do any rotations at your home school. Most people who are going into the specialties that highly encourage aways typically try to do a home sub-I and two aways prior to applications opening (or as close to it as possible).

You can always do additional aways later in the year, but it's understood that these are basically for audition rotations and not LORs.
