Hello,
Thank you for providing this space to send our questions about the GW program.

Regarding the linkage to GW school of medicine, it says in the website that you would have to be entering into the post bacc with a 3.6 gpa. Does that precludes anyone starting the post bacc with a lower gpa from being elegible for the linkage, even if they complete the program with a gpa above 3.6?

In addition, do you consider candidates who do not have previous volunteering experience in clinical settings? I'm a professional in a very different field and unrelated to medicine.

Thank you!

Hi!

Thank you for your post! Yes, the GW MD Program sets the minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.6 for eligibility to apply to their program through the linkage program. The GPA does not include courses taken within the Post-bac Pre-med Program. Of course, even if ineligible for the linkage, graduates of the Post-bac Pre-med Program are eligible and encouraged, if interested, to apply to GW's MD Program through the regular medical school admissions cycle.

Although previous volunteer work in a clinical setting is highly encouraged to (1) show that the applicant has explored the medical profession and decided they wish to pursue a career in medicine, and (2) make the application for both the post-bac program and medical school more competitive, we will consider applications without previous experience. Other, non-clinical experience, including volunteer and professional, are valued as well. There are opportunities to obtain clinical and/or research experience while in the GW Post-bac Pre-med Program, if admitted, through our partnerships with a variety of hospitals and other organizations throughout the DC region.
