I just have 2 general questions. I'm interested in Med-Peds and pediatrics as a possible residency. How common is it for people to apply to both versus just applying strictly to one field?
In this point in time I just discovered Med-Peds as an option as I had previously thought I just wanted to peds but am currently enjoying my IM rotation.

2nd question is how many sub-i or audition rotation in pediatrics did people do? My 3rd year ends in July and so idk if there was a specific cutoff date for audition rotations in which they are not as helpful anymore.

Thanks for your help!

You should do at least one sub-i at your home institution (or an institution that you're familiar with) to get a good letter for applications. Away rotations are not expected, but if you have your heart set on one specific program, it can help. It can also hurt.

I guess I'm still trying to understand the terminology. "Home institution" refers to a hospital that is directly connected to your medical school correct? Although we have a lot of clinical sites for 3rd year, the site I am at doesn't have any residency programs and Im sure the majority of the others don't either. I think I'll have to do an away rotation to get a letter from a residency program director in the field of interest.

OMs-IV here who is doing both med-peds and peds. Prefer med-peds over peds. Anyway, match day is two weeks out. If you can wait it out till then, I’ll reach out to go over my 4th year schedule.
Also, my school, just like a majority of DO schools, doesn’t have a home institution. I am also certain that there are no med-peds program in the nation that belongs to any osteopathic institution.
Find a program that you are interested in. Try to set up an audition month there. I had a LOR from a med-peds faculty and that was brought up at all interviews.

Awesome thanks! What if there is a hospital that offers both med-peds and peds, would it be frown upon if I applied to both programs at the same hospital?
