Questions on expired DAT

I gave my DAT in 2008. Since then it has been expired because it is 3 years later and I didn't want to apply again with an expired DAT. When I retake my DAT now I know ADA sends the last 4 scores to AADSAS.

My question is:
Will my old score average out with my new score if I do horribly or will it just be there as history and dental schools would ignore it seeing it was taken in 2008?

largely depends on the school. Your 2nd attempt will just be considered a "retake". Schools look at retakes differently

-some only consider the latest take (no matter what, worse or better)
-some, are more forgiving, will combine scores between different sections to give you a better chance (not many do this tho)
-some will average out scores

But that seems redundant because they say that the DAT score is expired after 3 years but they do actually look at the scores to average it out. If I see something expired I throw it out.

Regardless, they still have the right to know how bad/good your first attempt was. It is your responsibility to have recent college credit & DAT scores; simple rules for an even playing field.

Among the schools I spoke with either said they will consider the most recent score or the highest score, but never any kind of average.

Average sounds very lame IMHO. It's like if someone bombed it the first time with a 12 score (due to illness or some other extenuating circumstance) and then score a 24 the next time around, the schools will only consider them as an 18 score candidate??? That doesn't make sense.

If you think about it... the system as-is is pretty good.

Think about how bad (expensive) it would be to put an expiration date on pre-requisite courses. That would suck!
