Hey everybody!
I am a reapplicant too.. and I am going to be opening up an AMCAS app yet again... I actually wanted to ask everyone a question regarding LORs...
I read somewhere on this forum that ppl can use the same LORs they did on their previous AMCAS application, is that true??? 😕

I've heard (from my advisor) that it's a good idea to get your letters updated.

I'm also reapplying and from what I understand, not getting new rec letters only reflects negatively on you. I suppose you could use the same letters but the committees will wonder why you dont hace new ones. Schools like to see that you haven't just been sitting on ur butt so letters can show that you have been making use of your time.

But does anyone know how strict they are with the letters? Since I'm reapplying and have spent the last year doing research I won't have letters from ppl who've taught me in a course. But I can get letters from faculty that I've researched with. Is this acceptable?

You should have new or updated LORs for the upcoming app, however, old LORs can be sent as well. I think I'm going to have some of my old LORs as well as my new ones sent to the schools....perhaps to compare and contrast the difference.

You can get letters from faculty that you have researched with...that would be a good idea.

ohh so you have an option to mix both older and current LORs?? I didnt know that!

Well, it kind of depends on your own decision. My old pre-med office is allowing me to compile my LORs with them. So i'm going to send my old letters (which was 1 or 2...i'm not sure, my profs were asses), in addition to a newly updated pre-med committee letter and 3 new LORs. And if i'm lucky, i'm going to try and get one from my research employer. things will hopefully go well

I applied 2005 (no luck), and is re-applying 2006
Just open my 2006 AMCAS application, and they assigned me the same AMCAS id as 2005, did I do something wrong???

Nope, I'm in the same boat. I think that is normal though, and I guess it helps schools keep track of who applied the year before.

I'm gonna have to agree...i like the new format of the AMCAS....it gives me more freedoms to put more info on activities and what not. Good luck to all...i still have a PS to revamp

Does AMCAS save your old transcript or do you have to re-send even if nothing has changed??

you have to re-send your transcripts

can you not make "post-bac" (or "PB" from AMCAS '05) your grade level while listing classes? just wanted to ask here before I spam AAMC. seems like they'd have thought of that ...

Just a question, but why did you withdraw post-secondary from 4 schools?

You mean on MDApplicant? Hmm, maybe that's confusing. Maybe *I* was confused. What I meant was that I got their 2ndary, but never submitted it. I had a serious illness last year at the height of application time, so I had to let some applications slide. Especially Columbia, which would have taken a million years to fill out. Seeing as I'm on a "Re-Applicant" thread, maybe I should have spent a little more time on those! 😳

You will have the same AMCAS ID number as last time. The schools will not know that you are a re-applicant unless you apply to the same universities.

I don't know how AMCAS is working this year. However, "post-bacc" was an option last year.
