i'm stilll a MS III with budding interest in anesthia.... so pardon my little experience/knowledge of the field just yet.

however.... i would really like to know from you MS IV students who are on the interview trail now, what questions do you think are pertiant in asking when on interview?

for example... if i was able to go back and redo my medical school interviews..... i would rather ask the interviewer questions about their match lists than a stupid/pointless question about their student-body ratio in anatomy.

anyways... again.. this might should like a very broad topic, and if it is.. its because i still dont know that much about anesthia right now. but it would be helpful to get insight from 4th yrs on what interview questions they thought were important to ask each individual program...

example.... does anesthia run the icu?
how big is the crna factor in the prog in gettin teaching cases?

thanks ahead.

Ask for specific numbers concerning types of cases (cardiac, vascular, ob, thoracic, etc) and procedures (epidurals, regional, pain procedures, central lines, etc) for EACH year SPECIFICALLY the CA-1 year. You don't want to be stuck doing bread and butter cases halfway through your CA-2 year!

Also, ask how many fellows they have for each track (cardiac, ob, vascular, regional) and attempt to determine if the number is significantly affecting the residents' experience.
