So after doing some research/shadowing I'm convinced I like podiatry (barring no drastic changes by the government)

I still want to ask more questions about podiatry but I've already asked about type of work, salary, hours worked, residency, malpractice insurance, CE classes

do you know of any other questions I should ask to get a better gist of pod

also there are some local hospitals that have a podiatry residency/clerkship. Should I meet with a podiatrist there to get my foot in the door or am I wasting their/my time since I'm not in pod school

Two questions I asked that I found useful: Would you do it again, and if your child said they were entertaining the field of podiatry, would you encourage them or steer them away from it.

It's not a bad idea to shadow a podiatrist affiliated with a residency, not necessarily because it will make a huge difference in 5 years when you're applying for a residency (it might, but might not), but it might give you some insight into what a residency looks like and how you will be spending 3 years of your life. Making connections is never a bad thing.
