I've applied to dental school and am expecting to be accepted into a few schools come December. I'm having a change of heart now and am thinking of taking two classes next semester as well as the mcat and applying to med school. Do you guys think med school adcoms would look down on me for ditching my initial path? Do you guys foresee any red flags?

On a completely unrelated note- Do you have to have an MD or DO to open an outpatient clinic? Or lets say if you had the money would you be able to set up an outpatient clinic and hire a bunch of doctors to work there?

I don't know about the unrelated note, but you better have a damn good reason prepared for adcoms other than "ehh I had a change of heart". Then again, who knows if they'll even know that you applied/were accepted to dental school?

Well few things on that. First off thanks for replying.

I do believe you need to specify if you've applied to dental/medical school before. I think AADSAS asked if I've applied to dental or med school before. I don't think I'd hide something like that. Possibly even bring it up on my own without prompt, because it's part of my story.

It literally was a change of heart though. I can't imagine a better reason. I'm not too into dental work and the closer I get to making the full commitment the more it bothers me, that's the reason for me investigating another option.

But have you heard of a student turning down dental school acceptances and applying to med school?

I personally have not hear of anyone converting like that. I was not saying to hide it, rather I didn't know if it asked on AMCAS or AACOMAS. I do believe you should use it as part of your story to explain why medicine is better for you.
