If a class was dropped (W on transcript) and then taken later, is it considered a repeat for AMCAS purposes? Should I check "repeat" for this course for the one that was graded? I have one semester that I left school mid-semester (all Ws) and subsequently retook all the courses the next year.

(Sorry if this is a repeat question - I tried to search threads but couldn't find one that answered this question specifically.)

Thanks, guys!

I didn't list my W's as repeats. I think that's only if you got credit for a class and then repeated it for a better grade (or repeated for whatever reason).

😀

Thanks, prionsRbad! I was hoping that would be the answer! 🙂

BTW, love your avatar. Giant Microbes is so cool - I love their stuff 👍

Ditto, this is the same information I received from my pre-med advisor.

Sort of a similar topic (for me at least)...
At my school we have to take physical activity classes (ballet, basketball, etc). These appear on our transcripts but do not count towards our GPAs. Should I include them on my AMCAS? (The reason it's similar for me is because I had to withdraw from one when I had mono!)

I'd include them. If there are no grades for them, it won't hurt your GPA at all. If you don't add them in, you may delay your application, since they seem to want EVERY class listed no matter what.

That's kinda nice that your school requires physical activity classes. I wish my university had more of those, but the few I considered taking always fill up super quick.

Well we are assigned grades but the one that I finished I got an A- so that doesn't really hurt at all! It is really nice to have them, it's like you're being forced to work out, which I know I can need sometime. And they're usually really fun too.

I need those all the time. I tried signing up for a non-graded "power" yoga class through the U's rec center, but it ended up being a bunch of self-absorbed sorority snots (not that all sorority members act that way), so I stopped going halfway through. I should have stuck to the ashtanga yoga class like I had planned. 🙁 We have some other classes, but the only ones that are graded are swimming/life-guard classes and dance classes. The rest are just pay and attend.

I also have a gym class related question. First semester freshman year, I took swing dance for one credit pass-fail. I thought I dropped it after the first class, and realized that I hadn't dropped it only after I got a failed the class. The Phys Ed department wouldn't take it off my transcript. It is on my transcript, so I assume I need to list it. And, I feel silly asking this, but is this going to hurt me?

hello, i also have a question. i took ap bio in high school, passed, and it shows up on my college transcript, but i chose to retake the class because i didnt feel prepared. is this considered a repeat?

I had sort of a similar situation. I took AP chem (corresponded to gen chem I) in high school for college credit and by the time I went back in 2004 for the premed courses, it was a completely different course number and format (included biochem now), so I didn't consider it a repeat. I guess it would depend on whether it is the same class number/format or not, but that is just a guess. I would call/email AMCAS to be sure ([email protected]).
