I took the DAT about a year ago, and I had little experience with spatial manipulations prior to studying for the test. I scored around the national average on the PAT (20), and the one thing that helped me more than other study methods was consistent practice.
In addition to practice tests (which are a decent resource), there is a cheap app (about $1) on iTunes called PAT: Perceptual Ability Test by Pro App Developers. There are a lot of bugs and inconsistencies, but the app is generally good practice for familiarizing yourself with this subsection.
I'm in no way affiliated with the company, but I just thought I would throw this information out there in hopes that other SDN members might benefit from it and have additional practice opportunities for the PAT. For me, a large part of becoming comfortable with the PAT was simply repetition.
