I currently have no letters of recommendation/shadowing and that's one of the things I need to sort out before applying in the 2017/2018 cycle. I have attempted many times to shadow a primary care DO, but every time it has either fallen through or I've been denied. There's a really nice anesthesiologist at where I volunteer who I'm considering asking to let me shadow (I'm legit interested in the field) and I would also shadow my MD family physician if he'll let me (same hospital, also legit interested in the field). Here's the question:
Would I be looked down upon if I got a DO letter of rec from a non-primary care physician if I shadowed a MD primary care physician as well? I think I might be overthinking things, but many of the schools I have high hopes for have hardcore primary care missions, and I don't want to put myself at a disadvantage by having a letter of rec from a DO that isn't in that field. I guess I could try to get one from both?
