Many schools ask for LoRs from "basic science instructors/faculty":

Will they discount an LoR written by a graduate student?

My situation: This graduate student was my lab TA for 2 terms, and I now work with them in a research lab.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I recognize that any well-written LoR is not a bad thing, but is it possible to count this as a letter from "basic science instructors/faculty"?

Thanks for any advice!

Having the professor write you one is definitely better, I think. Do you have a primary investigator you work with in the lab? Ask that person.
