I will be applying for the entering class of 2010 (the upcoming app cycle). Is my MCAT score from Jan 2007 considered too old? I know 3 years is the limit, but is it 3 years from school year or application year?

It varies by school. Check the CIB here, and go to each individual school's page, and look at the second page under "MCAT"--> "Oldest MCAT Considered." Just add a year, since this info is for last year.

according to that, the oldest considered for 2009 is the 8-1-2006 score, adding a year to that would be 8-1-2007....so my Jan 2007 score won't do!!?!??

Keep looking. Other schools say your score would be fine.
Even for the ones that say your score is too old, they might have changed their policy for this year. Even if they didn't, you should still call/email any school where your score seems too old so you can be sure before you cross them off your list.
What was your MCAT, if you don't mind? Maybe you should consider retaking it if it can improve; I think it's silly to close potential doors because of a technicality such as this.
My score was 32...so it's kind of unnecessary to take it again. By the way I've just called the 4 schools I intended to apply to, and 3 of them said the score would still be valid 🙂
