I remember knowing this at one time and also remember it not being terribly complicated, but cant seem to dig it up; why is ocreotide effective in treating acromegaly?

thanks!

nm... FA has error where it says GH = somatostatin, which was throwing me off (saw it in errata thread)

huge error by FA

octreotide is a somatostatin analogue.

Somatostatin is involved in regulation of GH release

GH is controlled by 2 hypothal. factors in the HPA-

1-GHRH-released from hypothal to increased release of GH from pituat.

2-Somatostatin released from hypothalmus among other areas of the body-ie.pancreas- to inhibit GH release from pituatary-thus oceotride is the analogue of this and inhibits GH relase
