Quick PAT question [PIC inside]

that line should be a dotted line representing a break that you cannot see from the right.

I ran into quite many questions similar to this one. The actual object is composed of pieces. Think of the two little pieces as two separate blocks that are glued to the rest. That's why the line is solid. You may not see it this way, but I'm sure that it is the least incorrect choice (compared to other choices).

I don't know where this question comes from, but I can tell that this is a bad question set ... 1) Proportions of the three views given do not correlate well. 2) DAT questions will usually be based on one single piece of object instead of multiple pieces of blocks.

I understood the correct choice, but I was simply confused as to why it couldn't also be solid. I thought of them as two separate boxes...that's why I thought it would/could show up as a visible line also. Thanks again.

Hi puncho,
Check this diagram and compare it with the first one.
Look at the side elevation, notice that the piece which sticks out at the front is not co-planer (at the same plane) to the rest of the object...it is set back. Because it is at different plane we will see a solid line.
Where as, in the first problem both are on the same plane.
