I just submitted my amcas application and I noticed a major problem. In the essays section of the application, the software copied one of my characters incorrectly. There was supposed to be a DASH, but it copied it as a QUESTION MARK. This completely ruins the integrity of the essay.
What's it's supposed to be:

As a couple students seemed determined to confront their problems, a feeling of warmth filled me throughout suggesting I had a positive impact on a person?s life?as I plan to do as a physician.

How it showed up:

As a couple students seemed determined to confront their problems, a feeling of warmth filled me throughout suggesting I had a positive impact on a person's life?as I plan to do as a physician.

I asked them in an e-mail to change it to what it is supposed to be. Will it be a problem?

dude...u SUBMITTED IT and THEN it showed up that way?? or did you copy it from Word and then forget to change the char's in the little AMCAS window on ur browser before submitting?

the question mark change happens when u copy and paste from word into the little text box on the AMCAS site. but you have to change that yourself before you submit it. if you did change it, and then it changed AFTER you submitted...well, that's another plate of tamales....

when I copied it, I guess it changed without me noticing, I noticed it on the AMCAS application when I printed it out after submission. I expect them to change it to what it's supposed to be, cause I spent a lot of money applying, this so dumb to mess you up like that. Anyone have any advice?

aw man, sorry to hear that.

once you submit...

don't worry tho, lots of people seem to have submitted with errors(just a few, looks like from the posts) and still got in. if it's just one dash turning into a ? then you're OK, i think.

I'm hoping it can be changed because it has not yet been verified

what? really?! you're doomed...DOOMED!!!!

same thing happened to me!
but, i think it is obvious what you wanted. and, i moved mine from MSWORD to notepad, and it was fine in notepad...

honestly, i didnt even ask AMCAS. don't trip; you should be fine, and like the above poster said, med. schools know that AMCAS isn't perfect at these things (i hope!)
