I tried google, but after 10 minutes decided to consult SDN

I have seen STIR sequences in the past, and have seen things labeled T2 STIR..

is a STIR sequence, a T2 weighted sequence?

from google, STIR stands for short T1 inversion recovery...

please help clarify. thanks

Tons of physics behind it.
From practical stand point, it is a fat suppressed sequence with high sensitivity to fluid signal (more than T2). Very amenable to artifact. In can be useful as it is highly sensitive to edema (read pathology).

The T isn't for T1, but rather tau. And yes, at its heart, STIR is a type of T2 sequence.
