Quick question about financial aid

So, it looks like I got a $3000 scholarship from Jefferson and $60,000 in loans. Does this sound right?
I should also say that my calculated financial need was $62,000. Family contribution $2,000.
Family made roughly $40,000 for family of 4 in last year.

Er...I'm not really sure what your question is.

Sorry. It seems a bit shocking to me that there are NOT more scholarships. 😕

I thought I would get the Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students (at least that's what I was told by Jefferson earlier in the year). Maybe this is more of a question for their fin aid office on Monday.

My brain was warped by post-financial aid award shock syndrome when I wrote that.

Unfortunately, given the steep costs of a medical education and the lackluster economy, I would say that you should be thankful to have received any kind of scholarship support at all! Most people I know - including myself - have been given financial packages that consist entirely of government loans. It's a painful truth that one must accept in deciding to go to medical school, but at least you can take comfort in that you are not alone in this "struggle" and that these loans - as awful as they may be - will permit you to obtain an outstanding medical school education and ultimately become a doctor.

Regarding your question, your best bet is to contact the school's financial aid office on Monday. I do not know anything about how their office works, but I'm sure that you can easily be put in touch with someone who will be better able to advise you.

I think I'm just use to looking at my college financial aid packets. My school is $46,000, but there are PELL grants, outside scholarships, need-based school scholarships, etc.

I've never seen an award with so many loans. But, medical school is a different ball-game I guess.

3000 is a pretty good scholarship.

i know plenty of people in med school who'll be glad to even have that 3000 in schoalrhips... good job!
