For those of you that have taken Calculus I, would you recommend that someone takes Trigonometry before taking Calc? Or would it just be a waste of time. If it helps any, I'm pretty darn good at math. Thanks everyone.

SKIP IT!... I thought trig was hilariously easy...its basics to calc and if your good at math.. you can pick it up really quick. The first chapter in calc 1 should be a trig review.

I think Trig is important for Calc. I couldn't imagine doing Calc proofs without having a least a little bit of exposure doing simple trig proofs.

GREAT! You guys are awsome, I knew I could count on you. Thanks! 👍

My school has College Algebra and Trigonometry, and then Pre calculus before Calculus. Pre Calc is just more trig other than the basic trig covered in CA and Trig, from what I understand.

I was wondering that too, how essential is the rest of it.

I've struggled a bit, (don't laugh I know its easy for a lot of you...). My teacher absolutely sucks though. I have A's in the rest of the math courses I've taken.

honestly, i think it would be the other way around. if you have no clue about trig and take calculus, you are just wasting time taking it cz you wont have no clue about calculus either. if you know your trig, calculus is so freakking easy.
IMO. i would suggest you that you make sure that you know your trig before taking calculus. i mean you dont have to take trig class/ just read the book and do some problems. you should be able to breeze through calculus

yes, you should take trig before you take calculus.

It's pretty common for people to do worse in pre-calc than in calc. Pre-calc introduces you to a lot of topics, some of them pushing you away from comfortable areas. Examples of this include polar coordinates (away from good ol' x-y coordinates), analytic geometry (away from "visualizing" graphs), and conics (...both...). Calc, on the other hand, can be straightforward or extremely rigorous, depending on how it's taught. If all you're going to do are basic derivatives and integrals, then it shouldn't be a problem. But if you have to prove every theorem you use, then you're really in for it.

yes i really think that cal 1 and cal 2 are way more easier than pre cal and a lot less materials coverd and more focused on the topic

Go to a bookstore, buy a workbook on trig, do the workbook during your time off. Problem solved.

As long as they don't nail you for not having the pre-req's for the class.
