Quick question regarding 100/200 level classes.

I am a high school dual enrollment student and have a quick question I'm sure most of you know.

Next semester I will be able to take a good deal of 200 level courses. Does 200 mean sophomore level, essentially? I always thought it did. I know for sure that I am able to take these classes, there is no mistake on my part. Just surprised I could take so many, that's all...

Also. There are courses that say

Econ 207 and Econ 270. Does that mean Econ 270 will be more difficult? Since the number is higher?

I know it must be a dumb question (in fact I'm sure it is) but none of my friends seem to know and I don't know who to ask.

Also, I am able to take General Biology I. Is part of a pre requisite for medical school or not?

200 doesn't necessarily mean sophomore level. It just means that it's a little more difficult that a 100 level class, which is usually an "introduction to the subject." As for the Econ classes, while it doesn't necessarily mean it will be harder if it has a higher number it's *probably* harder. You might want to check though, because a lot of times one of the classes will be for people majoring in the subject and the other will be for a more general audience. General Biology 1 is a prerequisite for medical school, but you might want to wait until you actually start college to take that. Good luck!

From my experience, unless it is math or other "hard" science class, higher level does not always = more difficult. Many times it just means that it will be more specific within a subject. For instance, they might take something that you only learned about for a week in a 101 class, and do that for the whole quarter.

100 level courses are usually intro courses. These courses will usually survey the many different areas within a subject. So lets say you take Intro to Psychology, a 100 course. Each chapter will be devoted to describing a certain area with the realm of psychology. So there will be a chapter on cognition, biopsychology, emotions, motivation, abnormal, learning and memory and more. You will soon see in a college course catalog that there will be classes dedicated to each of those areas (each chapter in an intro course text can essentially be a course in and of itself). Those classes will be the 200, 300, and 400 level classes. Basically the upper level classes hone in on a specific area within a subject.

At my school 200 level courses are graduate courses, 100 level are upper division, and 0-99 are lower division.
