My edition doesn't have the answer for the b examples, so just wanted to double check on here to make sure I am right.

Example 8.7B
An electron is moving from left to right through a magnetic field that goes into the page. Which direction will net force be pointing.

I'm pretty sure its down, but would like verification.

Every edition of the BR physics books have answers for the b-questions. They should be on page somewhere around 281 if you have the older books.

The newest book has full explanations with the question itself while the older ones have an answer key in the back of the book.

Wow this is kind of saddening to find this out now. I was always so confused as to why my other subjects all had the answers in the chapters, but not physics. Oh well it probably helped me in the longrun since it prevented me from getting lazy and simply moving my eyes 2 inches down the page at the solution.

I never met the author who wrote the first version of the BR book, but he is a legend around the water cooler. He was responsible for creating b-questions that mirrored the a-questions and not putting answer explanations after the b-questions so a student was forced to really think their way through it while having the a-question to reference.

When the physics books were being redone, I can recall a few heated emails about this very topic. It's a teaching philosophy that sounds great and works wonders for people like yourself who are highly driven, knowledgeable in the subject, and confident enough to power through it. Granted, my career at the Berk has been more about doing office hours than anything else, so I'm seeing a different type of student who needs to be nurtured on their path. I voted for the b-explanations being written right there. I honestly think you grew more from the absence of those explanations (with the presence of the parallel explanations to the a-question) than you would have grown from the explanations being there.

You are a great student and wonderful person PingPongPro, and you will both do really well on the MCAT and get multiple acceptances from school that will be lucky to have you. Thanks for picking up the SDN torch left by the previous strong posters and running with it.
