Hey guys I am a current D3 at temple and figured I would give a quick review of the school to help people decide where they are going.
In short I really like the school and will explain why.

The good:

-Students- I really think that temple does a wonderful job at picking out students, I genuinely like pretty much every person in my class.

-New facilities- They are upgrading everything, they just put in a new pediatric clinic that is top of the line. New lecture rooms with class capture ect.

-Dean that is really willing to move and shake things up.

-Patients - You will do a ridiculous amount of dental work, after only a little over half a year I already feel pretty confident with my hands. (I have 30 patients of my own and also see other patients when I am on duty).

-Specializing: Temple is actually a pretty good school if you want to specialize because the residencies know how much dental work you have seen and done first hand.

The Bad:
- North philadelphia - really not all that bad compared to what I have heard. I take the subway everyday and contrary to what people say I routinely leave the library at times between 7:30-9:30 pm. I have never had a problem. This is because the school and library are on the main street of philadelphia which is lit up and always has traffic and people all around. That being said I would never walk off the main street because I really do think that being even one or two blocks off of it is dangerous. Also Although I know females that leave by themselves late at night, I suggest having someone walk you to the subway or your car.

- Requirements: the downside of having so many patients is that they also give us a ton of requirements which can sometimes feel overwhelming. Also every year there are a couple of students who take longer than the 4 years to graduate.

There are definitely good and bad things that I am forgetting but those are what jumped into my head. Good luck with your applications.

thanks for that 🙂
what do you mean it takes some people longer 4 years to graduate sometimes?
does that mean they "fail" a year? or a few classes? They get held back, if so for what? thats kind of a scary thought.

Could it also mean that they don't complete their clinical requirements in four years?

Ya, that is why people get held back. However, at Temple, the requirements are definitely do-able. Sometimes your patients don't show up to your appointments, and you can either go home and play Halo or stick around and pick up random stuff. The losers go home, play Halo, and graduate late. I spoke with multiple 4th years at my interview in Oct at Temple who were either already done with their grad requirements or only had a few things left and would be finished before the second semester of their 4 year. It comes down to the individual.
