I am wondering how it works if you do a MD res in ER and would like to practice in a state that requires the internship year. I have seen on a few res web sites that they will not take a DO who does the internship first b/c they loose a year of funding b/c the internship tracks you for 3 years only of funding. Can you either not do the internship and get around the rule or can you do the internship after residency. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have been told that the hoop to jump through to get your license if you take the MD route amounts to filling out one form and perhaps taking some remedial OMM course. It is the desire of the accreditation boards to 'recover' osteopaths who choose to undertake allopathic training.

thanks,

Is it the same for all 5 of the states?

You can apply to have the DO internship waived by the AOA, I am in the process of doing that. Haven't heard back actually, so tomorrow on my day off I am going to call the AOA to find out the status of that application.

I have heard that you may just have to do one or two months when you're out (if you havent' gotten it waived), sort of a fill in hte blanks AOA internship.

Q, DO
