Hi guys,

Let me preface this by saying that the scribe company that hired me messed up and pushed my start date back the July 25th 2016 from around early June. I am in my gap year from undergrad with an acceptance to med school and just 1 more interview. I was planning on traveling for a month or two before matriculation, and would have to quit before the 1 year point

Has anyone had any experience quitting early? What if I just send my chief scribe an email about looking for a new hire that they could replace me with asap?

As I'm sure the 1 year thing is non-contractual (right??), I still want the transition to be smooth for the Doc I'm working for, he has been a great mentor and I don't wanna shaft him.

I'm the chief scribe at my location. I would say that as far as staffing goes, as long as you provided adequate notice I wouldn't mind. I'm quitting my position(though I've been around for about 1.5 years) to give myself some down time before med school starts as well. I have had people quit after 6 months honestly because they randomly get accepted somewhere. But all of that is to say, as a chief scribe, there is nothing that happens if you leave the contract a little early. And the relationship you hold with people will depend of how you go about notifying everyone.

You're going to be pretty close to you year mark anyway. Give sufficient notice (maybe even a month) and they will be fine.

Although it's listed in my scribe company's contract, it isn't uncommon for people to leave before the one year mark. Generally, I feel my supervisors understand we're all pre-med first and require some rebooting time before going back to school.
