Hello fellow OMFS residents,

I obviously wouldn't be asking this question unless I'm really fed up with the program I'm at currently. Has anyone quit internship after matching? And what repercussions would I face? Would the program you match with drop you for leaving the internship?

I know it's toobearly and who knows if I'll even match, I have 14 IVs so I'm optimistic.
The program I'm interning at is super malignant, and it has been taking a serious toll on my mental health, I have been tolerating the abuse, yelling and humiliation, but I honestly don't feel like I'll be able to do it for much longer.

Any advice is welcome, thank you in advance.

The program you match at can't drop you for leaving an internship. Once you match it's pretty much binding

but something to think about: what if the program you match at is just as malignant/toxic?
I would stay, put your head down and focus on your work. Use your internship to learn oral surgery and to develop skills that will make your life easier at your matched program. People post on here about leaving programs they matched at all the time so try to learn to thrive in these toxic situations & use it as prep for the future so that you know how to navigate these situations if they arise

hope this helps

People know people and academic oms is a small world. You can quit and it wont be an automatic cancellation of match but you will be viewed negatively even before you start

Can I pm you

Just try and ride it out. Your program will call over to your new program and put you in a bad light.

Even if it is super crappy, you’re out of there in a few months. You’ll be on to bigger and better things.
