While a 2nd year Podiatry student, one of the clinical full time faculty members at my school slapped me lightly (I stress, it wasn't a hard slap) in the face when I missed a pimp question while at a weekend volunteer medical function. Then later he pimped me again, and I missed the question, he slapped lightly again. No witnesses that I can identify.

Previous to this, this faculty member added points to nearly every student for a a particular test that I scored the highest in the class. While most students' grades were significantly raised, and several students grades were raised to my grade, my grade wasn't changed. I complained that this wasn't fair to me, and the faculty member agreed and apologized, but didn't change anything.

What did this person have against me? Possibly two things: 1. I normally didn't attend this faculty member's class, which had no attendance policy. 2. I complained on an "anonymous" class evaluation form for a class where one of this faculty member's colleagues was the course director.

All of this happened during my 2nd year of the 4 year Podiatry program. I am set to graduate in a few months and am considering reporting the slapping (and possibly the grading) incident to the Dean. I have been hesitant to report this before graduation for fear of consequences. Even after I graduate, I am somewhat concerned as this person is a high degree martial artist, and I don't fully trust that there wouldn't be some sort of physical retaliation. Yet I don't want the faculty member to be able to get away with slapping students. Any advice?

The grading thing is part of life. Profs can give everyone an A if they want. It's not fair, but life isn't fair. I would drop that.

Slapping is unacceptable in any situation. It should be reported.
