Why opioids hit white areas harder: Doctors there prescribe more readily, study finds

"But she cautioned that not far down the road, the same inequities that afforded this brief advantage are likely to work against the interests of people of color. As governments and medical groups crack down on opioid prescribing, African Americans will find it harder to convince doctors to prescribe needed pain relief, despite their often greater need. Meanwhile, she added, cheaper, more dangerous street drugs are already flooding their communities as the flow of prescription opioids is shut down."

Racist all 3 ways.
1. Too much for whites
2. Not enough for blacks
3. AA has greater need.

And bonus 4th. Response on any side is in itself publicly deemed racist.

The premise is always the same for these articles when advocating greater access to opioids: that opioids are somehow the perfect pain management option and that if they are withheld, we are somehow denying the best solution for someones pain. When I deny someone ibuprofen because the risks outweigh the benefits I'm thanked for making a thoughtful decision for what is best for the patient. When I deny opioids because the risks outweigh the benefits I'm yelled at, and have a number of articles written about my profession and the in-humaneness of our medical practice. The incorrect assumption that opioids are the best tool for pain management by the groups advocating for more widespread use of opioids drives me crazy.

Don’t forget that many of these same groups have a financial interest in opioid prescribing or are articles written by people who are on said narcotics....

so this person in severe pain, sitting in a cot, was able to sit at the desk, leaning forward, and read a document of at least 5 pages long.

fwiw, she is a member of the US Pain Foundation.

yes, the same foundation that received at least a $2.5 million grant from Insys.

yes, the same pharmaceutical that marketed Subsys.

Bonus 5th.
5. It's written by a white woman, who is naturally more privileged than blacks.

What Is Intersectionality?

Liberal drivel.

I have plenty of black friends who grew up in upper middle class families and plenty of white friends who grew up in poor, uneducated rural families. Who is more privileged?
Answer is my black friends who had got into colleges denied to the poor white kids and they had access to many minority-only scholarships that the white kids didn't.

You can certainly make an argument regarding socioeconomic background and educational status which then affects various parts of peoples lives, but just the color of your skin doesn't offer extra privilege in 2019.

I can't get over the hilarity of a woman laying on a military cot with a notebook laying on her thighs in front of Congress.

"I'm here with my notes."

LOL

actually...

Hiring Discrimination Against Black Americans Hasn’t Declined in 25 Years

I don't think it's her protected Constitutional rights you're reacting too (Money is Speech and Freedom of Affiliation, after all). Instead, maybe you're reacting to her gender...(implicitly and subconsciously channeling your inner misogyny).

Opinion | Why Are We Still Dismissing Girls’ Pain?

"The #MeToo movement has done a lot to encourage women to share their experiences, and we now need those conversations to translate into meaningful institutional and cultural changes. The research on how little we acknowledge young girls’ pain suggests we need to start with something basic: When girls tell us about their experiences with their bodies, we need to listen."

nope. diversion and misdirection on your part.

im reacting to the fact that the person in question is a member of an organization that was bought out by drug money, at least death money from Insys.

Some the the economic measures are the best ever recorded. Don’t love trump but considering he inherited an already strong economy it is amazing the growth above that high baseline.

Unemployment rate has no correlation to hiring practices.

But, if you insist, if there is no difference in hiring practice, please explain THE FIRST SENTENCE:
Although the national unemployment rate for July was 4.3%, the unemployment rate for black workers was nearly double that of white worker, but it was also at a rate for blacks not seen since December 2000,

Always will be more work to do when it comes to discrimination but we can all celebrate the success our current president has had in improving the economic lives of millions of minorities.

i wonder what the African American unemployment rate would be if there werent so many illegal immigrants already in/allowed in the country? Abolishing ICE like so many Democrats want will certainly not improve the job situation for African Americans. These Democrat policies are racist to legal immigrants and US citizens such as African Americans. I wonder how many African Americans lost opportunities when Amazon decided to pull out of NY? Thx Democrats.

No correlation. Also demeaning since you are implying that African Americans should be working at the same low income demeaning jobs that illegal immigrants take.

Pls get your head out of the 19th century

You mean celebrate trumps bandwagoning off of the impressive trends by Obama to reverse younger Bush’s failures.

And it’s not all roses.

AP news - fwiw not fake news:
AP FACT CHECK: Trump on black unemployment

I made no such implication and/or analysis about the wages of each and every job opportunity. The clear fact is that the opportunity is gone when taken by someone else. And you ignore the fact that wages are rising based on supply and demand.

Is this what you are being told to think today? Your article cites census statistics, which are completely bogus. I know census workers. And it’s extremely alarming (but not surprising) that your economists are hanging their hat on that data to support your liberal narrative.

Er.... u used the same stats. So it’s okay when it serves your purposes but not when you are confronted with the full truth, eh?

. Read the article. The average salary of an African American is 10 fold less than whites, a gap that has widened.

This article points that notonly has income gap widened but also so has net worth - from Forbes.

The Racial Wealth Gap: Addressing America's Most Pressing Epidemic

This is the most ludicrous thing I've seen in a long time...

If this is America's "most pressing epidemic", we are really doing amazingly well. I guess cancer, obesity, drug abuse, the flu, MVAs, suicide, depression, poverty, etc, etc are all cured. Now we can waste our resources on trying to figure out why some people have more money than others.

Maybe these oppressed workers could hire a couple of Nigerians to assault them so they can become infamous. Or maybe they could get a university job studying cow farts.

No... " some of his best friends are black"

Yea like your hero’s? Of course calling everyone else racist to pander for black and Hispanic votes is more racist than anything Trump has ever done. Projecting....you’re doing it right.

It's becoming clear that "progressives" don't care all that much about poor people, racial discrimination, or their other purported noble causes.

What they care about is consensus, compliance, and obedience.

Racism/mysogyny/etc, are just cards that progressives play because they are more powerful than the actual cards they hold.

If Trump haters would just throw down the real card they hold, the one that says, "Trump is not complying!", everyone would agree and we could drop Trump Derangement Syndrome from the DSM.

Projecting...

And coming to false conclusions.

Amazing. Just amazing.

Fact of the matter, many of these progressives you decry are minorities. It’s an utterly ridiculous statement to think that they do not believe what they tout.

They don’t even stoop so low to say that about trump... he probably honestly believes the dribble and lies he spouts.

And doctodd: Opinion | Donald Trump’s Racism: The Definitive List

To start....

I didn't say they don't believe what they are touting. Some do, some don't. I think a lot of people just react emotionally and play the best card they think they have to get what they want.

he did it for greed, not out of any sense of higher purpose.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Obviously ....$1.2 million salary/year for him wasn’t enough. But also because it embraced the victimhood anti-Trump narrative that your side screams 24/7. He was interviewed on ABC before the truth came out as an anti-Trump hero. It was astounding to watch. Add to it the “smirking” white racist teenager who wasn’t, the Kavanaugh hearings, and Trump=racism among the many fabrications your side makes. It’s easy to see your side is the wrong side. Projecting is your side’s forté.

Police reports state he did it because he felt he was underpaid.

The rest are truths you refuse to believe in - the well documented and verified trump statements.

Kavanaugh and that teen’s actions are subject to interpretation. The white teen on a school trip wearing a MAGA hat is a questionable action in and of itself and clearly interpreted differently by different sides. Keep your blinders on. Ever read 1984?

you should watch his interview on ABC....his hate for Trump is palpable for everyone to see, just like yours. There is no vague interpretation of either, but if you want to keep going left right off the cliff, that is fine. And there is no vague interpretation of a teenager just standing there smiling at a native American. There is no racist smirk. It doesnt exist. The real racism was right before, when 3 African Americans were screaming racist slurs at the white kids, and nobody said a thing. By ignoring it and not covering it, and not condemning it, you and your side are the real racists. Of course your side didnt learn, and you doubled down on being racist by jumping on this recent Smollet bandwagon.

This is what happens when the demand for racism outstrips the supply.

This is the real racism. This is why Smollett paid those guys to yell, "This is MAGA Country!", because he knew there are a lot of biased people out there that would be triggered and jump to false and racist conclusions. This is the real "dog whistle".
