ASTRO will let you join as a Associate member for $50 and get a year of the Red Journal for another $50 if you call them and tell them you are a med student, or you can get it free online (http://www.astro.org/about_astro/membership_information/apply.htm). Once you get ASTRO membership, you can get junior ESTRO membership for around $50 (http://www.estroweb.org/ESTRO/upload/aboutESTRO/MembershipForm2005.pdf) . That's a chunk of change together, but if you want to present data at ASTRO, ESTRO, or ASCO, the cost is a lot less for registration fees if you are a member.

id save your money; being a member means nothing unless you present or something. Also look at
RSNA
ABR
ABS
ASCO
ARRO
ACRO

It seems on the ASTRO website that you have to be a resident or get signatures from a few members. If you are just a med student will they really give you a membership or do you need those sigs?

Does anybody know if there is any poster or abstract competition for ASTRO in which med students can participate? All I could find was competitions/ awards for residents. Thanks.

i think youre missing the big picture here: if youre a med student who gets to present at astro, who the heck cares if it doesnt win an award? youre already a big big step ahead of most.
