This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I misread the initial posting and thought it suggested the full professor in question was an URM. Edited my post to reflect that. That being said, still believe it's the same person.

Me too (pun intended). Didn't realize the point of the times up movement was to make vague, incendiary accusations that in the end only serve to self promote. Oh, wait...
The disparity research is very dangerous and inflammatory. First year out of training I was involved in a project looking at lung cancer outcomes for blacks treated at an inner city charity hospital vs matched pts of all races but (predominantly white) at nearby nci center. Problem was that the blacks did slightly better. It was shelved. Huge bias to positive inflammatory race baiting Results in terms of publication and self promotion. This is not a very intellectually honest field. Lot of young articulate faculty are looking to disparity grievances as a self promotion vehicle.

“White doctors are more likely to kill black babies” etc (cnn headline that vp savaged)

Did you guys know that the proper, enlightened individual now capitalizes "Black?"

In rad onc, never capitalize gray. But Black... you best capitalize!

To quote @Lemmiwinks on the Twitter, "All disparity research must unearth a grievance. Unpublishable otherwise." -10/19/2021.

Funny to me that MSKCC is one of the centers, IIRC, that is not posting their price.

I suppose Dr. Chino is trying to fight the good fight from within. Interesting that she's getting to publish multiple articles (this one, the parking costs one, etc.) basically slamming MSKCC.

MSKCC calling the police as to who keeps writing all these bad things that they keep doing:

I agree with @RSAOaky - reading between the lines of this email, I think we all know who this is.

I wish I could say I'm surprised. I am not.

Somebody please PM me who this person is/supposedly is. I have no frame of reference to this and can only think of one prominent GU Rad Onc (is it really a urologist?) at a high powered institution on the west coast who would potentially be asked to review MULTIPLE articles that Dr. Mahal has written about.

To be fair, it wouldn't be 'disparity research' if there weren't any disparities unearthed 🤔
But every home you look, you find a horrible outcome directly due to them not being served by the health care system. I am sure if you looked at urm with ultra favorable prostate cancer, they are ten times more likely to die of the disease in next 2 years.

As the Twitteratti would say...

YAAAAS QUEEN SLAY

Edit: I love to give credit where it's due, and I certainly have to give credit to Dr. Fumiko Ladd Chino for calling out her own institution on Twitter for this. Props. She is making my prior messages about her financial toxicity stuff look kinda foolish and I AM HERE FOR IT (again, as the kids say, I dunno).

Agree. Was more making the point that you can’t publish ‘disparities research’ unless you unearth a disparity.

I am a big believer in the idea that negative trials are just as important as positive ones.

I mean, $300 a day/$109,200 a year to be opaque? These centers are banking...

If you really want them to be opaque make the fine double each day, week, or even month...

For the low, low price of one junior faculty you too can shield your institutional charges from the public eye!

bottom line CMS just needs to stop paying people after a certain amount of time of non-compliance

they also need to fine the **** out of private guys/gals screwing over the system

many here will be crying when the birds come home to roost!

I missed the part where the type of person one is is germane to what they post on twitter. Many of the people we **** on in here are good people.

the point is that anyone sniping at Mahal is sniping at him for one reason and one reason only, and it's not a good look

SDN has a deep and serious issue when it comes to race. let's face it. the fact that the 'dare you to reply' thread is still up is embarrassing as hell.

I don’t know Brandon mahal. What is the reason someone would swipe at him?

What the hell part of this reality we're in doesn't have a deep and serious issue with race? I don't think the issue is what you seem to be suggesting, though.

Calling us all racists huh? Stay classy JonDunn. Wear that probationary status badge with pride bro

There has been some questionable race and gender related stuff that's been published in the red urinal. It isn't racist or sexist to call it out

I would have thought that until the Asian attacks in Bay Area this year
Hmmm. Who's side, exactly, does this support? I would imagine that of all the places to be a racist, it's probably hardest to do in sf.
I would caution about bringing race into this. Urologist could just be a total pric- or bully or just have some idiosyncratic problem with him. I am assuming Brandon is Hispanic, but that is not at all obvious to me. Perhaps, the urologist is terratorial with seer database studies for prostate cancer. He doesn’t want other dogs peeing on his fire hydrant?

Oh I agree. Don’t think this is enough to label this guy anything

Only implying there’s no shortage of bad apples anywhere in all 4 corners

Lol
Based on your own posts IN that thread you don’t agree with that thread, so weird for you to try to defend it now.

Be yourself.

Brandon is a good guy, very classy as seen in his email...

This is totally unrelated tweet.

Maybe this infamous Urology professor needs to do a fellowship in radiation oncology.
Then he can apply to be an instructor in a radonc dept on the East Coast with $150K/yr salary,
this would make RW very proud bc he now makes Peds salary...
Life is good...

Lol

There were some good discussions in that thread, yes a fair amount of right wing whatever, but plenty of good discussion as well like this topic:

I'm simply going off the fact that mahal attributed the perceived bullying to his skin color in a follow up tweet. Trust me, I only bring race into things when it's already brought.
