This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A job specifically built for NOT new grads. I don't blame you for it, just the reality of our job market at this point.

Better to go be an instructor at U of W or UCSF for a few years before applying?
Anyone who's been following this forum knew where the field has been headed since 2013. If someone is interested in staying in generalist practice at this point, I'd try to find a hospital based or private job in a less desirable area where they may be forced to be open to new grads and then consider lateraling once they've passed boards and have some experience.

I don't fault anyone for not looking for a new grad these days, esp if it's for a hospital based generalist position. So much easier to integrate someone who's already been out a few years and is BC. @RickyScott nailed it

The oversupply is well documented and maybe the academic centers that created the problem should be the one hiring those new grads who can't find a job anywhere else? So yes, let potters or Oklahoma/Mississippi/wvu etc or whoever hire their own if they can't find jobs elsewhere until things improve

This study is more of "proof of principles" rather than definitive, but 8 Gy x3 ---> Durva arm achieves pCR rate of 50%.
It is a rare study that has surg after SBRT (although the SBRT dose is somewhat low)...

This is great data.

Shows the value of XRT in an immunotherapy world. This is an important one to send to your medonc colleagues.

Do you have comments or opinions on any of these things? Strange, IMO, to just post with no comment as to your individual thoughts on the matter.

Also, tweets from Rad Oncs about non rad onc things in this thread... just kinda weird IMO, but you do you.

Well, like EvilCore (tm) and other third-parties and private insurers always like to say:

"We are not directing medical care. That is solely between the patient and their physician. We are just telling you what we will and won't pay for."

Was JonDunn's account suspended for posting radonc tweets in the radonc twitter thread?

No, it was for his (and others' who were also warned) actions in the Dare You to Reply thread. No warnings for him in this thread.

I feel Jon Dunn was unfairly persecuted. He/she irritated me, but in a really annoying way. He was good at it. Lift his suspension.

I hope the younger members appreciate witnessing the classic trolling of JonDunn. That's what the internet used to be (and still is, in some spaces).

Antagonize everything, stand for nothing. An art form in its own right.

It reminds me of my time reading The Temple of the Screaming Electron, aka TOTSE, which started as a dial-up BBS...

Yes, the nostalgia of it. Truly an artist.

Sure, but trolling for the sake of trolling. I used to do it. Was hoping we were past it, and we don't need it. #jon'sdone

It's not permanent. He'll be back soon enough and given ample opportunity to get himself perma-banned.

I had a strange dream last night of being in a bread line and I noticed as Paul Wallner handed me a loaf of bread that it was molded. I grimaced and JonDunn behind me in line said

"You need to eat around the mold, everyone knows that...Be smart."
I see PW throwing loafs of moldy af bread from his yacht by his florida mansion like Trump threw the paper towels at hungry puerto ricans. As you get your bread he says, “you shoulda networked harder mayne”. As many people still await for their bread, his trophy mistress walks out and says “babe, lets go! the mosquitos are biting me”

I spend a lot of time on this site, but dreaming of Paul Wallner? Can't say I've ever done that.

No need to let that man, or heck, even this forum, live rent-free in your head!

Speaking of Wallner, this editorial came out discussing the Dover, et. al paper: DEFINE_ME

I took the time to go through it line by line and here is my summary:

"It's not our fault. Life is stressful, especially board exams. We have a policy on lactating humans, but Pearson screwed it up. Oh, and we hired some women on our board. Wasn't my fault, tho. WALLNER OUT!"

1) The timing and wording of this response is so utterly predictable

2) The above passage is disappointing, to say the least. This argument that the basic science exams somehow protect us is farcical, and a blatant attempt to leverage job market concerns.

If the basic science exams prevent the "reduction of our influence in patient care", I would ask everyone to reflect in their local environments:

How many Dermatologists have in-office machines to deliver superficial radiotherapy? Do you think your volume of skin cancer patients is affected by this?

How many Interventional Radiologists are doing Y90 for liver? How many patients with liver disease are just passed back and forth between MedOnc and IR, and never set foot in your department?

Is Nuclear Medicine delivering Xofigo and Lutathera in your hospital? What about low- and high-dose iodine?

How many of us are practicing any form of brachytherapy?

These are all rhetorical, of course. The majority of us, the majority of the time, are performing external beam treatments, and our value in the clinic is, I would argue, in our extensive Oncology training, not in how many half lives we memorized, which proteins are involved in NHEJ, or our ability to hand calc an Orthovoltage treatment. Maybe, eventually, we will learn to shift our board certification process away from trivia and basic science.

Can you believe this $h!+? Weaksauce

Lol. The short answer is 0 hours. The rhetorical answer is, "Is there a post on #surgtwitter where someone asks if people block off time to be in the OR?" It's ****ing dumb that as a procedural specialty, the true procedure we perform is crammed in randomly, or during the weekend. Of course, I have no answer as to how to change that, or if it should be charged.

"Sorry i can't see that new GBM pt this week who is nervous even though he just had a gtr. My Friday afternoon is blocked for contouring"

Not to throw shade, cuz marathoning is an accomplishment, but he could be one day into treatment…🙃
I'm just amazed at MSKs shameless plug of protons in the tweet, essentially insinuating the guy is running marathons because of protons instead of photons. Real piece of work that MSK is...
