I'm a second year who's considering going into radiology. While I have not had a great deal of radiology exposure, I have enjoyed the small amount I have experienced up to this point. Anyways, I was curious if it is a bad sign that I HATE second year pathology. I know radiology and pathology are supposed to be similar fields, but did any of you dislike pathology in medical school?

pathology is medicine... ??? not liking pathology = not liking medicine??? i'm not a radiologist, but my guess is that you need to know a fair amount of pathology in radiology... this will be true with just about every speciality except maybe psych... perhaps you should look into psych?

No matter what specialty you go into, you need to be able to communicate in a cogent manner. Can you be more specific-- what is it that you dislike about pathology?

I liked reading about the disease processes in pathology. As a first year I wasn't all that interested in histology. Not surprisingly I didn't enjoy the histological aspects of pathology. On the other hand I was fascinated by anatomy. Thats why I enjoy about radiology-- the gross anatomic manifestation of disease processes.

No matter what field you ultimately decide to go into, there is no escaping pathology. Our profession does not exist without disease.

I am fully aware that medicine would not exist in the absense of pathology (in the broadest sense of the word). I was simply asking if any radiologists or radiology residents did not enjoy their pathology course while in medical school.

Hans, I think you helped me realize that I'm not really interested in the process of disease at the cellular level, but rather grossly. I guess this is what separates Rads from path?
