I was wondering if radiology at Cornell is one of the top programs for radiology in the US? Or are there better radiology programs at other universities??

i interviewed at cornell and thought it had a lot to offer. if you want to live in ny, you will be in the upper east side with very reasonably priced subsidized housing. and they are pretty nice.

there are so many good programs out there that it is more important to find a good fit. after the top five programs, a lot of programs are considered outstanding, including cornell.

i just didn't know if i could handle living in nyc, especially with no moonlighting. if i remember correctly, you get paid ~$45 per year for all four years. the subsidized housing helps, but it is still very expensive to get by in ny. but it is definitely worth checking out. they only offered 3 interview days last year.

Is there something particular about cornell/nyc/new residency laws that prevents you from moonlighting? I was always under the impression that radiology, since it has fewer hours and call than some other residencies, makes it easier to moonlight. At least thats the impression i got from the radiology resident i work out with at my gym 🙂

I know about this program and it is a good program, but it's not top 10. It has a great location in nyc (upper eastside) and great subsidized housing. The call isn't too bad compared to other programs. Although it has HSS the msk experience there has much to be desired. Having said that overall I think it is good university program that I would rank in the top tier middle of the pack. You cannot really go wrong. Cornell radiology has a reputation for a "cush" radiology residency in terms of call and workload compared to most other programs in nyc. Their lecture series is pretty good and usually on time and not cancelled. It's hard not to be a happy resident there. And they have the connections to get you some nice highly sought after fellowships. Just make sure you are top of the pack, cause this place attracts strong applicants.

So if Cornell isn't that great, what are some of the best programs (excluding MIR and HMS)?????????

Oh, and second thing: why is the msk so ****ty?? Any particular reason?

seems like cornell is an interesting program. does it use a cutoff step 1 score for the application?

Officially proabably not, but it could. They need to get rid of some applications somehow, right?
