Dear all,
I am an IMG and first-year resident in Radiology in Europe.
I am deeply interested in teaching (part-time), therefore I am thinking of breaking my residency training to undertake clinical research (leading to a PhD thesis) at an American top-institution (my most likely option being the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC).
First, I'd ask you (in particular, those who took an academic training track) what may be the REAL value of research training in the academic/private career ladder?
Secondly, what other track options/training programmes besides mine (residency-research-back to residency-fellowship) couls suit a strong training in clinical and research skills?
Finally, what are the top-5 radiology residency programs in the US?
My "fear" is to find a good timing/momentum - my point being that, quite likely, most radiologists follow private practice after completion of residency due to hard to refuse job offers.
Besides, I still believe that research training really matters to better prepare people for long and unboring careers, as your strong and trained critical appraisal will turn your activity into sth more exciting (and that applies as well to participation in Academia).
Let me know your thoughts.
