i'm interested in rads as a potential field to go into. i'm also considering doing a phd (md/phd) in a social science field, like public policy. i was wondering if it was possible that having the phd in such a field, and taking the time out of med school to do it would affect my rads residency matching negatively.... are they gonna ask "wtf does public policy have to do with rads?" or might it be a positive thing? assuming all other things, like board scores and scientific research, are equal.

Havad is gonna love you.

(seriously. some high end academic places like hopkins and havad really love the people with a minor in violin instruction or a bunch of op-ed pieces in the NY-Times. but unless you really want to have a career in organized medicine or real politics, I don't think a phd will help you a lot in your medical practice.)

Won't hurt, might help a little. If its public policy as it relates to medicine, specifically radiology, the ACR would have the !#@$! for you...
