I'm planning 4th year and am not sure about doing an away rotation (or what residency I'm going to do -- tick, tock, tick, tock
).
I'm thinking of just doing a random away rotation (maybe ER) in a geographic area I'm considering. I wouldn't be there to try to prove myself / get a LOR / get an interview, just have a different experience.
Is this a waste of my time, $, and potentially a liability during future interviews?("WTF were you doing again? Why? Why didn't you do a rotation in IM at our prestigious institution?")
