What did it say? I applied there, but have yet to receive any sort of communication from them (although my AMCAS is not verified yet).

I got it too. Here is what it said:

Dear Prospective Applicant,

Saint Louis University School of Medicine encourages applications from students who have achieved a high level of academic performance and who manifest in their personal lives those human qualities compatible with a career of service to society. The University's mission statement affirms the value of a diverse educational environment to prepare students for life and work in a global society. Beyond the important objective of training competent physicians who are scholars of human biology, the School strives to graduate physicians who manifest in their personal and professional attitudes that reflect the Jesuit spirit and values, and affect the physician's interactions with patients and colleagues, and with society.

For more information about the school, please visit our web site: http://medschool.slu.edu/admissions.

-I did not apply there-

no idea how they got my email address

I got it too. I didn't apply there either, so I figure it's a last ditch attempt to pimp secondary fee money from us.

i'm not even applying this year though, haven't done anything with AMCAS

What is everyones feelings about the school (sorry to ask this question I don't have my MSAR with me this summer)

Oh, I see. Yeah, other schools have been doing it, too, I saw MCW (Wisconsin) sent quite a few of those to random people who didn't apply there. It's kinda funny that people who haven't applied are getting all these communications from them and people who actually applied have yet to hear a word, lol.🙄

people that got it are probably people that took the mcat recently or have registered to take it recently

Yup. Looks very much like MCW's attempt. It does seem a little lame. Anyway, I was complete at SLU on 7/20, and did not get that email. Same with MCW. Applied, complete, and did not get the random email.

This process is seriously a rip off. Schools shouldn't be banking on fleecing prospective med students for funding. They should just put this added time and effort into getting more money from their alums who presumably already have the wherewithal to throw money at them. I heard from a current med student that schools used to screen much more than they do now. I guess they all started to see us as dollar signs....

I also got the same random e-mail and didn't apply to SLU. I think it has to do with MCAT scores. Their e-mail seems like a covert way of saying "hey we like your numbers, try applying here"

yeah whoa i got that email too.. i jsut sent out my primary last week but it's still on "ready for review" status, so i really don't know how slu had access to any info about me. I thought they liked my app or something or thought I had high scores and was just about to add them to my list haha. ok since it was randomly sent, then maybe not.

As for access to your info, I remember that there was somewhere to check (I can't remember if it was regarding MCAT registration or submitting your AMCAS application) that asked if you'd be interested in allowing schools to send you information. I think it was based on your MCAT scores, and thus I'm pretty sure it would have been a box you checked off when you completed your MCAT registration. Probably on the same page that allowed you to make your scores available to your undergrad/pre-health institution. At least, that's my best recollection. Does it sound familiar to anyone else?

i agree with the other posters who suggested that it's mcat related. washu just solicited me (with an mcat mention) yesterday and then slu today. i took the may 25th mcats, so maybe these scores are just now being released to med schools.

I got that email too. I still haven't submitted my primary yet, but I asked them a question about LOR requirements and included my AMCAS ID so I thought it was because of that.

Yeah, I also received this email, but didn't apply to SLU (nor do I intend to, even after reading it lol).

i don't see how it could be mcat related i didn't score anything spectacular

If you checked the same box on your MCAT that allows the military to contact you, that's probably how they got your address. SLU is pretty random anyway with the contact stuff.

I got the email even though I already did apply there.

what's up with these MO schools. I just got a similar letter from washu saying i shoudl apply based on my mcat scores. I already applied there, so maybe this is a good sign 😀
