Random non-MCAT and only peripherally related to the MCAT thread - Part 2

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I posted this in Pre-allo but I thought maybe my random peeps could give me some advice: all of my LOR are in to my school's committee but one. The lady has it done; sitting at home for 2 weeks not mailed. How do I tactfully bring it up that she really needs to mail it?

I SOOOO want to see "The Devil Wears Prada"...has anyone read the book? When I worked in news, the head booker was like satan and she was my good friend's boss...it was a perfect title for her life.

just follow up... maybe a call or email. remind her that it needs to get in asap.

Call her up and thank her for her help in attaining your goal or is she too dense to see that as a reminder?

It is so nice to have you back A-man!

Nikki, I thought of you today! I stopped at the Cabela's in Dundee, MI on my way back from visiting my family. I was so excited since I love their catalog but have never been to an actual store before. There was an elderly Amish couple in there buying a bigass rifle. For some reason I found that really funny.

yeah those were my grandparents.

Beary--honestly--you are going to be a brilliant dr.--try to chill tomorrow 🙂

That stuff makes me goofy. After I took my first one, I wouldn't take another...it freaked me out. :scared:

It just makes me sleepy and feel kind of "floaty" if that makes any sense, . And it will certainly take care of a bad headache.

I'm a little afraid of the stuff - my grandmother was addicted to percocet.

Beary you sound like a country bumpkin. A lot like how I view GWB. A person who knows how to have a good time and would be fun to hang with.

Nascar + Cabella's = rural gangsta. 🙂

Thank you!! 😀

I am a rural gangsta. Got my posse here too.

If you are on good terms with her i would just put it out there. Say "sorry to bother you but have you possibly had a chance to mail my letter of recommendation?" make sure you tell her that you really appreciate all of her help and what not.

Agreed. My Ph.D. mentor (which was my most important letter for residency) didn't write it for FOREVER and I finally wrote him an email telling him nicely that I needed it ASAP. He did it that day.

Wish I knew .... all my letters are in to my school's committee except for one also. It's the one from the OB that I shadowed. I don't have an e-mail address. I'm not sure whether I should call him on his cell phone and gently remind him, leave a message at his office, or show up at his office. And I'm also not sure how much longer I should wait before I do one of the above.

Hopefully it'll be there in another week and I won't have to worry about it.

When hubby did his first residency (chaplaincy)...his supervisor didn't get his evaluation done for a FULL YEAR! It was horrible. It's not that it was a lot of work...he just wouldn't do it. Hubby kept calling and finally got kinda rude since he needed it for his next residency. A YEAR! WTF??

Same here with family members. I'm a little scared of it too. But I used to be more scared of it before I took it - at least now I know I can take it when I need it and not end up on skid row.

A few of my classmates (from my original med school class) have already totally destroyed their careers and families from addiction to narcotics. So it is serious stuff.

I don't know if that is more irresponsible or sad. 🙁

Starts out irresponsible and rapidly becomes sad. 🙁 My understanding is it quickly goes from something to help you relax/deal with the stress (irresponsible) to something you absolutely can't function without (sad).

Has anyone realized how many channels there are dedicated to cartoons? It's a little ridiculous! Cartoons and reality shows....PUUULLEZZZZE!

Yes, but I love the cartoon channels ..... they keep my daughter occupied when I need a break from her.

She has stash compartments all over her scooter. It would be pretty hard for the cops to find probable cause to search a scooter.

Don't forget the bonnet and pantilooooooons!!!!!!!!!

OMG you guys are talkative tonight!

Beary - Several universities have formal post-baccs for non-trads and like mush said they have a specific sequence of courses you follow, kinda like a grad program would have, only you get a certificate of completion at the end.

An informal post-pacc is when a non-trad sets their own schedule and takes whatever classes they need for pre-reqs or to do well on the MCAT.

TypeA- like jlw9698, I have bio and chem courses that are about 100 years old. So, I re-took my gen chem and bios as well as A&P. It gives me fresh info and helps with the GPA. So, if you are concerned about forgetting the info OR raising your gpa, don't feel bad about re-taking them.

Lili (or Nikki?) - There is a Cambridge in about every English-speaking country 😉 Major ones: US and England.

What's the holdup on vampire?
