Whew! I was hoping you guys would say the boat would rise with the tide! Otherwise you'd have trouble!

Here's another one.... not MCAT-related but fun to keep you occupied!

Imagine you are driving a bus. When you start your trip there are an old lady named Johnson and a long-haired kid on the bus. At the first stop the lady leaves and a businessman enters. At the next stop Frankie, a young boy, enters with his little sister. Then three old ladies who have been shopping in the mall get on. After a short trip the long-haired kid leaves the bus and a man and lady enter. Paul with his dog Blue gets on, while Frankie and his sister get off, and, finally, the bus arrives at the bus station. What is the name of the bus driver?

They never gave the name, lol!!!

Here's one: An airplane is on a treadmill the same lenght and width as a normal runway. Frictional constant between the wheels and treadmill is the same. The treadmill's speed matches the airplanes, but in the opposite direction. Will the plane take off?

I'm still waiting for the answer about the speed of light in an expanding universe. 🙂

Now answer it 😉

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! Wooooohooooooooo. See I knew that MCAT score wouldn't hurt you too bad if UPitt is giving you an interview invite. which mind if I say even if you don't do the PhD route they are a strong research school so you'd get a lot of opportunity for research there.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO Mr. T too!!!!!!!

I would think if there is enough windspeed from the wind and the flaps are in the right position, maybe, but it may also depend on the airplanes weight and design.

I haven't taken physics yet....

Eh...no wind gusts, dead air. Think about how an airplane moves. Where is the power being exerted...

I'm in a fun trivia state of mind - my hubby is the director of promotions for the rugby club now and we're hosting a trivia night fundraiser tonight.

I had to come up with a PPT presentation of 6 rounds of 10 questions. usually it's 10 rounds, but it's a short one this time.

We've been doing it for about 2.5 years now and it's fun!

do americans actually think canadians are stupid? let me tell you its the complete opposite on this side of the border lol

You're gonna have to walk me through this one, F1 🙁

Okay, airplanes with wheels are free-wheeling. They're not connected to anything. The power of the engines makes thrust in the air, which means the power isn't going to the ground (cars put power to the ground).

The airplane will take off the same exact way since the wheels free spin. They'll just spin faster in forward or reverse depending on the way the treadmill moves. The only thing the plane has to overcome is the force of rolling friction, which is the same, very minimal. Planes already overcome this everytime they take off on a stationary runway. No matter how fast the treadmill turns, it's not enough to hold back the plane. 🙂

Edit: For a car, it won't move forward. Since the force a car puts down has to go to the ground and the ground moving counters this. Airplane's force goes in the "air" because all it needs is air to make thrust.

I was not even thinking jet engines at first. This is interesting to note, though!!!!!

Cool. 'Cause I'm just joking around. I hear it's a beautiful place. I'll be going up to Toronto next year for a wedding, but otherwise I've never been. My husband has been fishing/snowmobiling up there, so I'm anxious to go! (I 😍 snowmobiling)

It still works for propellor powered planes. 🙂 The blades just pull the air. All planes need to move is air, not ground. 🙂

Really??? You want to do primary care??? You are one of few I know who actually say they willingly want to do primary care. Most people I talk to want to go into subspecialties or surgery.

Megboo give me some more riddles. I like the one you put about the bus driver. reminds me of one from one of these old children's books my parents used to have.

It went something like this: On the way to St. Ives I met a man who had 7 wives. Each wife had a sac and each sac had a cat. How many people were traveling to St. Ives??????

One for sure traveling to St. Ives - yourself!

yup that was the answer. Most people who read it read over that the first time as Williams did with the busdriver one.

Oh and noon is PM while midnight is AM and the start of a new day.

megboo said:
Technically, it's neither! Same for midnight!

How is that so??? That doesn't make any sense since midnight is the technical designation of a new day regardless of whether it is night time, according to calender rules.

And noon is the official designation of the mid day even though it may not make sense.

This reminds me of the time when QofQuimica was putting riddles in her avatar. no one could get her last one. I don't even remember what the answer was. But nikki was on a roll and getting all her silly riddles. My favorite was her Ferrous wheel.
