today I went to Borders and picked up the book that I needed to read for book club, which was tonight. Then I saw a few people, then read the entire book (it was short), went to a meeting at the hospital, then onto book club. I'm wiped!

😱 Wow! Kick back and relax! You deserve it!

I forgot to pick up the book this weekend. 😳

Night by Elie Wiesel- anyone? anyone?

so good, yet so disturbing and thought-provoking. may need to re-read it when not on lightning speed. actually, I read it in college... but as we've established, that's been a while.

Definitely deserving of more than a speedread. Was there a good discussion?

wow peeps. I am NOT reading all those back pages.

Just got out of my Houston interview. It ROCKED. I am so in love with that school now. Too bad I messed up the interview. 🙁

just like you messed up the MCAT 😉

i'm sure you did great!

yeah, there was. one person was bothered by the lack of detail that he provided regarding the effects of his experiences on his psychological self (hey, we're a bunch of SWs- what do you expect?), but the counter to that was that it forced you to use your imagination as to the effects.. and that no matter how vivid our imaginations, it would pale in comparison to the actual experience.

it's been decided, though- next time, a fun book.

actually, there are a lot of books from HS/college that I should probably be re-reading. that's assuming I actually read it the first time around..

Yea I should too. My school was crazy about making us read books. In fact, we probably read over 100 novels by the time I was done - no lie (I always signed up for the honors english classes) The problem was I always played sports and never really had time to read them, so it was always Cliff's Notes for me. I really regret it because I had a tough time reading fast enough to finish the Verbal section on the MCAT and a blame it all on my lazy ass not reading enough.

If I could do it over, I would substitute those late night video games with reading, maybe I could have finished those 1 or 2 verbal passages I always had to skip!

mother = HS English teacher since 1965 = can sniff out Cliff's Notes in a 100 yd radius

Never had a chance to use them, much to my chagrin. (Mostly b/c all the ones she had at home which she'd confiscated were for books that my school didn't assign. :meanie:)

although I must say, the madre is good- she knew those Cliff's Notes backwards and forwards, and made up her quizzes accordingly. she'd take a detail she knew wasn't in CN and throw it on there as a short answer question just to see what answers kids would make up.

pret-ty sneaky, Mom.

See, my teachers said the same thing: "I can tell when you have read Cliff Notes" But when it came to quiz time, they always made them so Cliff Notes would do just fine as a prep.....what idiots my teachers were  But in the end, I was sort of the idiot too

I didn't enjoy HS reading that much. My teachers always stressed the details in the reading on quizzes so I alwasy ended up trying to memorize small facts instead of reading it for what it was. It ruined the experience imo.

this is the same woman who paid me $0.50 to collate her tests (copies made by the ditto machine with the blue ink.. who else remembers sniffing the freshly-made copies? c'mon- you know you're out there!) and grade her vocabulary tests (they were multiple choice, so I just had to make red slashes)

looking back on it, if I was a HS freshman who found out my teacher's 10 y/o was the one who graded my test, I'd probably be a little pissed. 😀

We seldom had quizzes over the readings. Instead we had to write papers. Not just summary papers, but stupid off-the-wall thesis papers.

I didn't take 12th grade English. I opted out and took English Comp I and II at my local community college instead. That's where I actually learned grammar for the first time. 🙂 My 9th grade English teacher told our class on the first day of school she wouldn't teach us grammar. That we were supposed to have been taught in middle school. Everyone said they weren't. She didn't care and I don't think she understands what a foundation for education means. Needless to say, FL ranks pretty low on verbal scores for national exams.

 Yes it does! you are the first person to ever figure that out or ask me about it!

My favorite livery for the F14 is the VX-4 Evaluators. Specifically with the Playboy Bunny logo. Let me try to load it up.

Hopefully when I get some free time I can buy a 1/48 plastic kit and build a model of it. I could just buy an already built one, but that's no fun.

For those who don't know the planes in that pic above. The left most is an F-15 Eagle, top is F/A-18 Hornet. Bottom is an F-16 Falcon. In the back is the best--F14 Tomcat.

I made this sn when I was 12 (around the time I went to Aviation Challenge)

I wanted to be an astronaut. I went to space camp when I was 9 and aviation challenge when I was 12. I loved it! F-14 was always my fav (Top Gun!!)

Don't know if you saw the BestLegalAdvice like I posted earlier, but I was just watching some Top Gun, too! "Take My Breath Away" music video had a lot of Top Gun clips. It was my dream to become an F-14 pilot, but the last F-14s were retired earlier this year in Virginia 🙁 If this whole med school doesn't work out, I'll go to the military and hopefully an F/A-18 pilot program will be possible for me. 🙂 I want to still be an astronaut. I never get tired watching the shuttle launch from my back yard.

That's a great pic of the big 3 fighters. I love the 18's as well (I am a big fan of the Blue Angels)

Yea it was time for the F-14 to go I guess, but it was a great fighter (those wings are just so badass)

I still dream of being a flight surgeon or doctor in space some day 🙂

Blue Angels is something that everyone needs to see. I saw them last Fall up in Gainesville. Very cool. I know someone who is friends with a fighter pilot. The pilot actually got to be one of the Blue Angels for a season. He said he got pretty bored of it quickly and preferred doing missions instead like he normally would do instead of shows. I can't say I blame him.

Wow bored of flying with the Blue Angels! He must have seen some serious action!

Man...if the military (I'd go to AF) would have a combined MD/fighter pilot program, I'd work my ass off like crazy to get into that. That would be the ultimate job. I should just e-mail them and ask them. I've already talked to a few of their guys about being a fighter pilot. You need a 4 year degree with a minimum 3.0. I got that. 🙂

Oh sure, I show up and the whole world goes to bed. Buncha wussies. Who needs sleep? Sleep is for girls! That's why I'm gettin' a full 8 hours tonight. hehe
