Whoa, the thread is very quiet!

I have a wicked hangover. 🙁

Today, I am going to do desperately needed laundry, bills, and dishes. Also vacuum and clean bathrooms. And watch NASCAR. 😀
wow, your plans for the day sound identical to mine. Exciting stuff, huh? 😉

I did the dishes already and paid bills a couple days ago. The rest is all waiting to be done.

It sounds like you kicked butt on WoW last night!

Sounds like household chores are the order of the day for a few people. I gotta do dishes, clean the kitchen and bathroom. But no hangover...did that a few days ago 😳 I always swear I'll never do it again, but obviously I haven't had much success with that. Gotta clean my room too, track down some accomodations for a workshop next week, and then pay tuition for the fall session :scared:

What an exciting life I lead 😛

You people have been crazy busy!! Just stealing my uncle's computer to check in and see how my favorite randomites are doing.

BTW, I totally had a make-out dream about House last night. And it was surprisingly good. Apparently he's an excellent kisser. I should have known it was a dream though. It started with him crying - yeah right, house doesn't cry!

wow, you guys were up late. the residents let me go home early tonight so i'm home at 430 am. i was scheduled to stay until 7AM but since there were just 3 patients left on the labor floor they let me go. what i did tonight:

-scrubbed into 3 c-sections, 1 set of twins. had my hand completely inside a woman's abdomen through the c-section incision all the way to the top of her uterus... crazy. the twins had two placentas though so it looks like they were fraternal. on the last section since i hadnt cut a cord yet i just grabbed the scissors and told the residents i wanted to do it, pretty cool. the last case was a 500 lb diabetic mother that we closed up with staples since its better for those types of patients, i got to put in like 4-5 surgical staples. :meanie: i had been stapled shut after my appendix was taken out when i was 15 so it was nice to be on the other side of the OR stapler.
-saw one vaginal birth... nothing out of the ordinary here, nice parents.

overall it was a great shift and i lucked out with a couple of really awesome attendings that let me scrub into everything and some pretty cool residents.

now i'm gonna sleep so that i can wake up in the late morning and study all day. talk to you later people.
I cannot WAIT to start med school. 😍 😀

My house is clean!

Wow, congrats!!! I think there may have been one time in the faraway past that my house was clean.

I have done some necessary laundry, dishes, etc. today. Now I am going to take a nap to try to catch up on sleep. Then, pay bills and watch the Brickyard 400. 😀 I'm going to tivo the race and be sure not to turn on the TV until I watch it so I don't find out anything.

Don't worry - my house won't stay clean for very long. 😉 The kids will make sure it doesn't.

My MIL, FIL, SIL, BIL and nieces are all coming over tomorrow morning so I needed to get it done today. My MIL is soooooo unbelievably critical of how I keep my house. When she was over for the baby's party last weekend, the house was spotless but she had to point out the fact that the patio furniture cushions are a little dirty. Wow, you think??? Furniture that sits outside 24/7 and it's DIRTY?? The horror!! 😱

I don't get along with any of these people (minus the two nieces, they are sweet). My husband's family is just so critical. Drives me nuts.

Okay - vent over. 😉

Which picture should I use for my admission ticket?

(I am the guy)

But seriously, can I use one of these, or will they get all angry and stuff?

Aren't there a list of specifications on your admission ticket? I can't recall...it's been a while. I just cut up a 2"x3" photo...from high school. I have hardly changed in appearance 😳 You could also try those photo booths in the malls, but beware...they do not meet the size requirement (2"x2"). Another option is to get a friend to take a digital pic and print it out on the glossy photo paper. Or, you could get a passport photo done. I personally wouldn't risk it...you've come this far, and you don't want to be turned away by some anal retentive proctor on a power trip

Here is a list of all states the prohibit sales on Sunday

Link

List of state laws
you will all note the LACK of restrictions on buying booze in MO

I can buy a fifth (or pint) of whatever I want at the regular grocery store, and it's not even back behind the manager's counter or anything. Just in between the dairy and bakery sections. drastically different from growing up in OH... I can also get a pint of sum'in-sum'in at the local Shell station if I so choose.. 🙂

I'm in between baptism and baptism party right now- forgot some things and had to run home.

one of the things I forgot is to bring a few business cards. not to hit people up for business (that'd just be wrong), but b/c one of the other potential attendees is a DO, and I want to hit him up to shadow him (which is still slightly wrong of me, but what the hey..)

yeah, it definitely has its "wow" moments. i'm LOVING being in the OR though, I think I might really give surgery some serious thought now. 😍
It sounds like you are enjoying this rotation more than peds even if they are working you to death. 🙂

Have you gotten to see any gyn surgeries yet or are you doing just OB stuff right now?

peds was just medicine, this is actually a mix of medicine and surgery so its very cool. this rotation has three 2 week blocks, OB, Gyn, and Gyn Oncology. I'm about to start the 2nd week of OB which is just OB clinic, I'm done with labor and delivery. After that I'll have one week of Gyn clinic and then 1 week of Gyn Surg followed by 2 weeks of gyn onc which is also a lot of surg. it all depends on the attendings and residents though, it could either suck to the point you get nothing out of it and are treated like crap or it could be awesome where you're learning and actively part of the team. i just keep crossing my fingers for good residents and attendings. 🙂

That's one of the things that really appeals to me about ob/gyn - the fact that it's medicine and surgery. You get to give care to a lot of the same patients for several years and can get to know them - that primary care type stuff - but you get to do surgery too. 😀

I hope you get good residents and attendings for the next parts of your rotation! I'm enjoying hearing what you think of it. Next week shouldn't be bad in terms of time if it's all clinic. No overnights, right? 🙂

Hell yeah. Trauma surgery Arsenic!! Get both EM and surgery!

right! and the nice thing is that its EITHER morning or afternoon clinic so I'll have to be there still at 545 to round on my patients and write their progress notes but then I'll just have to attend the 7-8AM meeting, GET ONE HOUR FOR BREAKFAST and then EITHER go to clinic from 9-1 or 1-5 depending on if i'm morning or afternoon clinic. lots of time to study for the shelf which i totally need since L&D was totally time consuming. plus i'm getting the keys to my new apartment this friday so it'll give me time to get some things ready. i'm doing like a bare minimum move in though with just my laptop, some clothes and an air mattress this friday, i'll just bring all my stuff when this rotation is over i think.

you SOOO know thats what i wanted if i went in to Surg instead of EM. trauma surg would KICK ASS.
Hey, we might just work together in the future, if you plan on practicing in Florida that is. 😉 I will keep my options open, but it is likely I will do that or EM.

Wow!

I just got a freaked out email from an M4 friend at Iowa who has been planning on going into g surg for all this time, and now that she has to submit ERAS next month, she is thinking about going into some peds subspecialty. Poor girl.

Yuck - moving blows!!

Hey - what do you guys think of buying a condo? I think a morgage payment might be cheaper than downtown Houston rent prices. 😱 Always assuming I end up at Baylor or UT-H

MM: I just finished book 1 of the Elric series. Not really what I was expecting but in the pleasantly surprised kind of way. It's a very short read and the writing (at least of the first one) concentrates more on plot development and Elric development than the other characters (who honestly, I couldn't care less about at this point). I'm thinking there might be a significant change in writing style in Sailor on the Seas of Fate - at least that's how it appears after 10 pages or so
